<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;">Prabhupada: No. Kumbha Mela is
sat-sanga. If you go to Kumbha Mela to find out a man of knowledge, then your
Kumbha Mela is right. Otherwise, yad-buddhih salile sa eva go-kharah [SB
10.84.13]. If one thinks that this salila, the water, to take bath in the water,
is Kumbha Mela, he is a go-kharah. But the real..., that "Now there are assembly
of so many saintly persons. Let me take advantage of their knowledge." Then he
is intelligent. [break] ...of highly learned saintly persons. People should take
advantage.Dr. Patel: To bring people together on discussion there are
different groups, no?<br />
Prabhupada: Still, you can go to different groups of
saintly person. Different groups means brahmeti paramatmeti bhagavan iti [SB
1.2.11]. There are some yogis, some jnanis, some bhaktas. They are of the same
category, little difference. Otherwise...<br />
Dr. Patel: By different ways they
have reached the same goal.<br />
Prabhupada: Yes. Brahmeti paramatmeti. Some of
them are brahma-parayana; some of them paramatma-parayana; some of them are
bhakta. It doesn't matter. But they're all spiritual. They have no interest in
this material world. Tattva-vit. Tattva-vit. They know what is truth. They say
that Kumbha Mela is... That spot is very sacred because Mohini-murti brought the
nectar there.<br />
Dr. Patel: But in India, Kumbha Mela...<br />
Prabhupada: Kumbha,
that kumbha, means the waterpot.<br />
Dr. Patel: There are different places round
the Nasi. Now the last year and...<br />
Prabhupada: So might have been all these
places.<br />
Dr. Patel: Nasi and Ujjain and this, three places.<br />
Prabhupada: How
everything is nice. See the ap, sky, how visala (vast) and how nice by Krsna.
Purnam idam. [break] The vrksa-yoni is condemned. By Krsna's arrangement the
vrksas are also so nicely set up, it becomes beautiful.<br />
Dr. Patel: They're
all the representatives of Krsna's creation. This is perfect.<br />
Prabhupada:
Purnam. Purnam idam. Purnam adah [Isopanisad, Invocation].<br />
Dr. Patel: It was
a challenge to one scientist who taught nonsense...<br />
Prabhupada: Well...
What...?<br />
Dr. Patel: One man challenged by me, a student, you know, "Sir, you
said there is no God. Can you make a living cell even of a..., not of, much less
animal, of a plant even?" And he looked with open mouth. "Can you make a single
cell living? Cell of. Not of the whole tree." That is nature. That is God. That
is Krsna.<br />
Prabhupada: Andantara-stha-paramanu-<wbr></wbr>cayantara-stham govindam
adi-purusam tam aham bhajami [Bs. 5.35]. Andantara-stha-paramanu-<wbr></wbr>cayantarastham.
Paramanu. Anu. Then paramanu means smaller than the atom. Six paramanus makes
one anu. Atomic dimension is the combination of six paramanus. So in that
paramanu also the Lord is there.<br />
Dr. Patel: He made it, and then He entered
into it. That is what the Veda says.<br />
Prabhupada: Yes. Antara-stha.
Yac-chakti... There is verse. The Paramatma. Paramatma is there. The whole human
life is meant for understanding all this and glorifying the Lord. And they are
wasting the life by imitating the hog. Nayam deho deha-bhajam nrloke kastan
kaman arhate vid-bhujam ye [SB 5.5.1]. Vid-bhujam. Vid means stool; bhuja means
eating. Yac-chaktir esa... What is that? There is a verse. Eko 'py asau
racayitum jagad-anda-kotim yac-chaktir asti jagad-anda-caya yad-antah,
andantara-stha-paramanu... [Bs. 5.35].<br />
Dr. Patel:
Jagad-anda-koti.<br />
Prabhupada: Ekah apy asya. Eko 'py asau racayitum
jagad-anda-kotim. They create millions of universes.<br />
Dr. Patel: But the
standard of creation is the same, sir. That I believe of life. Wherever you see,
it's the same. That is the greatness of God, that there is no
change.<br />
Prabhupada: So without that...<br />
Dr. Patel: If you are an amoeba or
a highest evolved man, the system of life is the same.<br />
Prabhupada:
Without...<br />
Dr. Patel: That is the wonder of biology and science. That is why
we wonder how great God has made the creation. That is where we feel the
presence of God, or the real scientist. [break]<br />
Prabhupada: They believe.
Some rascals, they say there is no God.<br />
Dr. Patel: This Khorana, our Indian
scientist... He did this work and he felt aghast: "O God!" Because he had a
background of...<br />
Prabhupada: Hindu.<br />
Dr. Patel: A religiosity there. Some
fellows in America, they talk nonsense about this science: "It's all the
chemicals." They believe in what we call that dialectical materialism: It is a
material arrangement which produces consciousness. It is not the consciousness
which governs the material. [break]<br />
Prabhupada: ...the brain is conscious?
[break] If you want subsidence of anartha, bhakti-yogam adhoksaje. Anartham
upasamam saksad bhakti-yogam adhoksaje, lokasyajana... These rascals, they do
not know. Ajanatah. Vidvams cakre satvata-samhitam [SB 1.7.6]. Therefore
Vyasadeva made this satvata-samhita for these rascals and fools. Satyam param
dhimahi, janmady asya yatah [SB 1.1.1]. This is the beginning of
Srimad-Bhagavatam. The origin of everything.... Anvayad itaratas carthesv
abhijnah sva-rat. Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna.... [break] There is a very big....
What is called? Conspiracy against us.<br />
Dr. Patel: Here and America. Yesterday
I read about that cutting paper.<br />
Prabhupada: No, no. One secret letter they
have... How they are making conspiracy.<br />
Dr. Patel: By the
church.<br />
Prabhupada: Not by the church.<br />
Dr. Patel: By the
society.<br />
Prabhupada: Now they are determined to cut down this
movement.<br />
Dr. Patel: They don't like their boys, I mean, getting a better
understanding of the life and living a pious life. They want them to
be...<br />
Prabhupada: Not here!<br />
Dr. Patel: Here it is different, sir. We can't
compare India with those people. Here we see still there is some signs
of...<br />
Prabhupada: I wanted to start this movement. I requested so many
friends, "Give me your one son." Nobody. "Swamiji, (Hindi)." <br />
Jagadisa: What
does that mean?<br />
Prabhupada: "What will be benefit by this if I make my son a
Vaisnava or a brahmana?"<br />
Dr. Patel: No, but Vaisnavas are born in the family.
They did not become sadhus. Why should they?<br />
Prabhupada: No, no, they do not
give much importance to the movement.<br />
Jagadisa: Hamsaduta Maharaja was
describing that while they were traveling kirtana, in one village one of the
village boys wanted to join them. So he was living with them, and they were
arrested by the village people and detained, and the boy was sent home, because
of the same thing.<br />
Prabhupada: Yes.<br />
Jagadisa: Here in India also.<br />
Dr.
Patel: What is that conspiracy, sir, in America?<br />
Prabhupada: They are
planning how to stop this movement in so many ways.<br />
Dr. Patel: By some sort
of physical force or something like...<br />
Prabhupada: Not physical, but... What
is the idea?<br />
Jagadisa: Propaganda.<br />
Prabhupada: Propaganda.<br />
Dr. Patel:
The Americans, I mean, always doing like that. There are lot of bad
persons.<br />
Prabhupada: Well, there are good and bad every place. Most of them
are... Manusyanam sahasresu [Bg. 7.3]. This is Kali-yuga.<br />
Dr. Patel: But I
have read some letters that some of the university professors of philosophy,
many of them are in your favor.<br />
Prabhupada: Oh, yes, many. All intelligent,
they are in favor. They're also grouping to defend us. They are also
grouping.<br />
Dr. Patel: That is more important. The fools may say anything, and
dogs may bark.<br />
Prabhupada: One priest, very famous priest all over the world,
is in our favor, Mr. Cox. Who is that?<br />
Jagadisa: Cox, yes.<br />
Prabhupada: He
is determined to defend this movement.<br />
Jagadisa: From Harvard.<br />
Prabhupada:
Harvard University.<br />
Dr. Patel: In fact the Christianity is a
bhagavata-dharma...<br />
Prabhupada: No, it...<br />
Dr. Patel: ...in a
way.<br />
Prabhupada: We have admitted. But Christianity has fallen. Here is the
real religious system.<br />
Dr. Patel: They have fallen into the trap. They have
forgotten Christ's teachings. [break] What about me... You'll get up on horse?
That is enlightenment... [break]<br />
Prabhupada: Above your and our.<br />
Dr.
Patel: That's right. That is... All religious scriptures are above,
undoubtedly.(?) It's meant for the humanity in general. And the Christianity is
meant for humanity. Christ died for the humanity, not for a particular race...
[break]<br />
Prabhupada: Woman's nature is the same everywhere. In spite of your
women being so elevated, Canakya Pandita has said, "You don't trust them."
Visvaso naiva kartavyah strisu raja-kulesu ca. That means nature is the
same.<br />
Dr. Patel: It is a system of custom.<br />
Prabhupada: And Urvasi was
explaining Pururava about woman's nature...<br />
Dr. Patel: That sanctity of fact,
not to us.<br />
Prabhupada: Fortunately, our men cannot have sex cult even up to
the point of death.<br />
Dr. Patel: What I mean to say is that we
have...<br />
Prabhupada: Our, if you say, "our," so if one is sticking to the sex
cult up to the point of death, he's not "our."<br />
Dr. Patel: Sex
cult...<br />
Prabhupada: Sex cult, yes, grhamedhi. Who stick into family life,
that is sex cult. It has no other meaning. It is a concession of sex. To remain
in household life means a concession of sex.<br />
Devotee: So now you are
sixty-five...<br />
Dr. Patel: No, that is not sex. I am prepared to oppose you for
hear.<br />
Prabhupada: No, I don't hear you. I hear the sastra.<br />
Dr. Patel: No,
but this is also sastra. Please let me...<br />
Prabhupada: Yan
maithunadi-grhamedhi-sukham [SB 7.9.45]. No, maithuna, but maithuna products.
You are attached to your sons and daughters. That is maithuna product.<br />
Dr.
Patel: That way we are attached to our bodies.<br />
Prabhupada: Yes, that is...
Either maithuna... Just like Gandhi. The same thing, a bigger scale. Bigger
scale. Maithuna product.<br />
Dr. Patel: Our body is also maithuna
product.<br />
Prabhupada: That's all right, but that is the first instruction:
"Don't be attached to this body." So if we remain attached up to the point of
death to the maithuna or maithuna product, then the same illusion. That is
said.<br />
Dr. Patel: So you have to leave the body consciousness and become soul
conscious perpetually. It is...<br />
Prabhupada: And that soul consciousness is
Krsna consciousness. Yes. So... But in the soul consciousness...<br />
Dr. Patel:
Becoming brahma-bhutah, you have to worship Parabrahman Krsna.<br />
Prabhupada:
Jaya. Cent percent Krsna consciousness is liberation. Hitva 'nyatha...<br />
Dr.
Patel: Brahma-bhutah prasannatma [Bg. 18.54].<br />
Prabhupada: That is
beginning.<br />
Dr. Patel: He gets the highest bhakti. Brahma-bhutah prasannatma
na socati na kanksati, samah sarvesu... [Bg. 18.54].<br />
Prabhupada: No,
Brahma-bhutah... Where is that brahma-bhutah?<br />
Dr. Patel: Then he mad-bhaktim
labhate param. Then he gets the real... Otherwise body conscious people cannot
do the bhakti without becoming brahma-bhutah.<br />
Prabhupada: Brahma-bhutah.
Everyone is sarira-bhutah.<br />
Dr. Patel: That is what I was telling you. And
everyone was sarire kunape tri-dhatuke.<br />
Prabhupada: Yes. So unless one is
brahma-bhutah, there is no question of advancing in spiritual life. [break]

[SB 11.5.41]<br />
Finished, no more duty: "I simply surrender to
Krsna." He is liberated. Sarvatmana yah saranam saranyam gato mukundam parihrtya
kartam. "I have no more duty." That is the brahma-bhutah stage, when one thinks,
prasannatma, "Why I am suffering this unnecessary...?" [break]
Devarsi-bhutapta-nrnam pitrnam [SB 11.5.41]. [break] Matir na krsne paratah
svato va mitho 'bhipadyeta grha-vratanam. One, if he is grha-vrata, he goes to
guru or not guru-he'll never be reformed. Grha-vratanam: one who has taken this
vow that this home is everything, grha-vrata. Vrata means taken vow: "It is my
only duty." Matir na krsne. He cannot place his mind unto Krsna, matir na krsne
paratah svato va, either by good advice of guru or personal, svatah, na mithah,
nor by meeting, sat-sanga, so-called sat-sanga, because the real disease is
grha-vrata.<br />
Dr. Patel: No, that is right, sir. But there
are...<br />
Prabhupada: Yes. So the grha-vrata... If we keep ourself grha-vrata,
then either guru or personally or by sat-sanga, nothing will help us. Matir na
krsne paratah svato va mitho 'bhipadyeta grha-vratanam. Why? Adanta-gobhir
visatam tamisram punah punas carvita-carvananam [SB 7.5.30]. Chewing the chewed.
[break] Na te viduh svartha-gatim hi visnum durasaya ye bahir-artha-maninah [SB
7.5.31]. If one is trying to be happy by material adjustment, that is durasaya.
It will never be.... [break] Yavan na ghrnita mahiyasam pada-rajobhisekam. Yavan
na ghrnita. Bhagavata sloka, each word, each line, concentrated. Vyasadeva's
contribution, last thing; by Narada's upadesa. And this is the only means of
anarthopasamam. You have created anarthas, and human life is meant for arthadam.
But.... Hare Krsna. So therefore real Vedic civilization is that gradually we
have to give up this grha-vrata position. At one time you must voluntarily give
up. Although I do not like to give up, still, by the order of the sastra, one
has to give up. Pancasordhvam vanam vrajet. Vrajet means compulsory. Just like
we accept so many things compulsory, similarly, to give up family attachment
after fiftieth year, that is compulsory. We therefore invite all the compulsory,
what is called, renouncement. Of course, nobody can go to the forest. That is
not possible. They are not trained up as a brahmacari. So this Hare Krsna Land
-- "Come on." All the vanaprasthas, they can live in this land or Vrndavana,
Hyderabad, simply for bhagavad-bhajana and no other purpose,
anyabhilasita-sunyam [Brs. 1.1.11], making all other purposes zero.
Anyabhilasita-sunyam jnana-karmady-anavrtam [Cc. Madhya 19.167]. Jnana and
karma, these are bondage. Karmi, jnani, yogi -- they are especially bewildered.
They want something, but still they say that "I am now renounced." So long there
is want, he cannot be renounced. Renounced means no more want. Svamin krtartho
'smi: "I am fully satisfied now. I don't want any..." Yam labdhva caparam labham
manyate nadhikam tatah. "I have got such a nice thing that I have no aspiration
for getting any more." That is brahma-bhutah prasannatma [Bg. 18.54]. Svamin
krtartho 'smi. So this is Vedic civilization, that at a certain stage one should
forget that "I belong to this family, I belong to this society, I belong to this
nation, and so on," there are. Sva-dhih kalatradisu. Sva-dhih: "My own men, my
kinsmen." This is sva-dhih. And beginning from kalatradisu. Kalatra means wife.
Wife is the beginning of expansion. From wife, child; from child to grandchild;
grandchild to great-grandchild; and so on, so on. Stri means "which increases."
Kalatradisu. (Hindi)<br />
Indian man: Swamiji, I get two thoughts. Number one:
having acquired a family, I am willing to renounce, but would I not be running
away from the responsibility, in the name of Lord Krsna, for the bringing up and
educating the children? And second thing...<br />
Prabhupada: You cannot educate,
neither you bring. This is maya. Do you think... Do you think that only in
your presence your children will be happy? There are... Just see here in the
corner, the father, mother, and the child is always, twenty-four hours, crying.
The father, mother, is there. They are poor men, they are taking care, but
still, the child is unhappy; it is crying twenty-four hours. There are many
you'll find. So does it mean that in the presence of father, mother, a child is
happy? Everyone is being conducted by his destiny. The father, mother, may be
there or may not be there; his destiny will go on. This is the law of nature.
You see here. Do you mean to say, because that man is poor, he's not taking care
of the child? Why the child is crying twenty-four hours? So if one child is made
to cry by his destiny, even in the presence of his father, mother, he has to
cry. Nobody can make him happy. So this is called illusion, that "I am doing."
Ahankara-vimudhatma kartaham iti manyate [Bg. 3.27]. A rascal, he thinks like
that. But it is not the fact. The fact is prakrteh kriyamanani gunaih. His
destiny or her destiny is to suffer. So even though father, mother... Suppose a
rich man's son is sick. He has engaged good physician, good doctor. Does it mean
that he will guarantee life? Then what is the principle? Balasya neha saranam
pitarau. Prahlada Maharaja said that "It is not a fact that when the children
are under the protection of father and mother, he's secure." Tvad-upeksitanam:
"If You neglect, that 'This child must cry; this child must die,' then even by
the greatest care of the father and mother, he will die." So what is the use,
saying that your duty...? Duty? That is maya.<br />
Indian man: Second thing
is...<br />
Prabhupada: No, first of all you understand this. Then bring second
thing. That you have no duty. Your only duty is to surrender to Krsna.
Sarva-dharman parityajya mam ekam [Bg. 18.66]. That is your only duty. But
because you are under the mental platform, you are creating duties, so but that
also must be finished after certain age. That is compulsory, that "You are very
good, responsible man. All right, do your duty up to this. No more duty. No more
duty." So this "duty, no duty," this is our creation. We are under fully control
of the nature. But we have created our mental concoction: "This is duty. This is
good. This is bad." That is our mano-dharma. Real dharma is sarva-dharman
parityajya mam ekam saranam vraja [Bg. 18.66]. This is real dharma. And
everything is mano-dharma, mental creation. Therefore the Bhagavata in the
beginning it is said that dharmah projjhita-kaitavo 'tra: [SB 1.1.2] "This false
dharma is rejected." These are all false dharmas. Real dharma is to surrender to
Krsna. But it takes time. Therefore sat-sanga is required. But actually real
dharma is to become Krsna conscious and do everything... Anukulyena
krsnanusilanam [Cc. Madhya 19.167]. What Krsna wants, we must know it and do it.
And this is real dharma.<br />
Dr. Patel: How to know it?<br />
Prabhupada: You can
know from Krsna. Krsna says in the Bhagavad-gita. It is open to everyone. If you
cannot understand, then go to guru. He will explain to you. "And how to know
it?" You cannot say. "Keep to the left" is there. You cannot say that "I did not
know the law." You have deviated. Why you have gone to the right? The signboard
is there, "Keep to the left." You have gone to the right; you are criminal, must
be punished. So Krsna comes personally, and He is giving instruction. How can
you say, "How to know?" This is criminal. This is criminal to say that you do
not know what to do; you do not see God. God has given the law. There is no
question how to know. Know it! Tad viddhi pranipatena [Bg. 4.34]. Tad viddhi.
Know it! Why you are neglecting? Tad viddhi. Tad-vijnanartham sa gurum
evabhigacchet [MU 1.2.12]. That, if you do not... What is called? Ignorance of
law is no excuse. You cannot say in the court, "Sir, I did not know the law."
Aiye. You know or not know; you have violated the law; you must be punished.
Hare Krsna.<br />
Trivikrama: Once you know, then everyone is benefited. Your
family is not neglected.<br />
Prabhupada: The ignorance of law... Why? Why this
human form of life? To know. Why you do not try to know it? Then you must be
punished. Krsna said, asraddhadhanah purusa. "If you are neglectful to know,"
dharmasyasya parantapa, "this dharma, this science, this duty, what I am
giving..." Asraddadhanah: "Eh! Bhagavad-gita is..." Asraddadhanah. There is no
sraddha. Rascals. "Then the result will be mam aprapya. He does not get Me."
Then what is next? Nivartante: "He goes back." Where? Mrtyu-samsara-vartmani:
[Bg. 9.3] "Again in the cycle of birth and death, birth and death." Again, after
millions and millions of years, he'll come, again get the chance of human body,
another chance to know. So this is the chance to know. You cannot expect the dog
will know, the cat will know. You have got human being. You must know. The
signboard, "Keep to the left," is meant for the human being. If the dog goes
from right to the left, he is not to be punished, because he has no knowledge.
This is common sense. But you cannot neglect. You are human being. You cannot
say, "I did not see the signboard. I did not know the law. Therefore, by chance,
I have violated." No. No "by chance." You must be punished. This is the
responsibility of... Narottama dasa Thakura, therefore, sings, hari hari bifale,
janama gonainu: "I have wasted my time." How? Manusya-janama paiya, radha-krsna
na bhajiya: "I got this human form of life. I did not know what is Radha-Krsna."
Janiya suniya visa khainu: "Knowingly, I have taken poison." A human being, if
he does not become Krsna conscious, that means knowingly, he is taking poison,
and he must die. Janiya suniya visa khainu. Sometimes I do not know what is
poison. Just like child does not know. He may take. But he'll not be excused.
Even a child takes poison, it does not mean the nature's law will excuse him.
No. But.... What to speak of child, a human being, if he takes poison, janiya
suniya, then what is to be...? So in the human form of life, you cannot neglect
the instruction of Bhagavan. Then you'll be punished. Severe punishment. Tan
aham dvisatah kruran ksipamy ajasram andha-yonisu [Bg. 16.19].<br />
Dr. Patel: You
are thrown in the lower yonis.<br />
Prabhupada: Lower? Yes, yes. Lower... That is
mrtyu-samsara. Suppose next life I become dog. Then my becoming very big
scientist, big lawyer, big this and that, everything finished. But that law is
not in your hand. After death, you cannot say, "Mother nature, you are giving
this body. I don't like it." No. "It is not in your liking. It is my liking."
Karmana daiva-netrena [SB 3.31.1]. When you are criminal, you are under the grip
of the magistrate. If he puts you in jail, you cannot say that "I don't like."
No. You like or not; you must go. Who cares for your liking? Therefore mudha.
Prakrteh. Prakrti, the laws of nature, is working in its own way. Nobody can
change it. But ahankara-vimudhatma. Those who are rascal, they are thinking, "I
am independent. Whatever I like, I can do. There is no God. There is no law."
Kartaham iti manyate. That should be avoided, that I am independent. Means that
knowledge is lacking at the present moment. "Whatever I think, I can do. It is
private. Religion is private." And big, big swamis are supporting. "Yes,
religion is your private."<br />
Dr. Patel: Even the state says "Religion is your
private..."<br />
Prabhupada: Whatever... The rascal says. A rascal says. It is not
private. No private-public. It is laws of nature. You have to abide by that. The
nature's law is "Now winter. You have to cover your body." There is no second
law. So that is wanting, that we are... The present defect is that every one of
us under the laws of God or nature, whatever you say. And still, we are
declaring independence. This is the defect. Prakrti-stho 'pi. <br />
purusah
prakrti-stho 'hi<br />
bhunkte prakrti-jan gunan<br />
karanam guna-sango
'sya<br />
sad-asad janma-yonisu<br />
[Bg. 13.22]<br />
Sad-asad-janma. Why?
Karanam guna-sango 'sya. He's associating with the different modes of material
of nature, infecting, and that is the cause one is born as demigod, one is born
as dog, one is born as tree, one is born as human being. Karanam guna-sango
'sya. Therefore we should associate with sat-sanga. Sat-sanga chadi kainu, asate
vilasa, te karane lagi more, karma bandha phansa. Because we have given up
sat-sanga-om tat sat-Krsna's sanga, we are entangled in this asat-sanga. And
that is the cause of my karma-bandha phansa. Sat-sanga chadi kainu, asate
vilasa: "I wanted to enjoy with asat." Asato ma sad gamaya. Therefore I'm
entangled.<br />
Dr. Patel: Sat-sanga is continuously coming in contact with such
gurus like you or, I mean, reading that sastras, also is a
sat-sanga.<br />
Prabhupada: But reading... By reading, you cannot understand.
Tad-vijnanartham sa gurum evabhigacchet [MU 1.2.12]. That is also vidhilin: "In
order to understand that science, he must go to guru."<br />
Dr. Patel: But, sir,
instead of reading no books of knowledge, if you read Bhagavata or
Bhagavad-gita, it is a sort of a sat-sanga, and that develops. Someday he'll go
to a guru. He'll find out.<br />
Prabhupada: No, no, if he reads Bhagavata, he is
not ordinary man.<br />
Dr. Patel: He is on the way up.<br />
Prabhupada: If he reads
Srimad-Bhagavatam, Bhagavad-gita, he is not ordinary man.<br />
Dr. Patel: He's a
sat-sangi.<br />
Prabhupada: Satam prasangan mama virya-samvido bhavanti
hrt-karna-rasayanah kathah [SB 3.25.25]. Rasayanah kathah. Unless you discuss
Bhagavata, Bhagavad-gita, with sat-sanga, devotees, it does not become
relishable. Therefore he's not attached. Tad-vag-visargo janatagha-viplavah. In
another verse.... Na yad vacas citra-padam harer yaso pragrnita karhicit [SB
1.5.10]. He may read one literature very decoratively written, very interesting,
but there is no discussion about the Supreme Personality of Godhead. Yad vacah
citra-padam, very decorative. Na yad vacas citra-padam harer yaso pragrnita
karhicit: [SB 1.5.10] "But there is no glorification of the Lord." Tad vayasam
tirtham: "Such kind of literature is enjoyable by such persons who are like
crows."<br />
Dr. Patel: Why?<br />
Prabhupada: Crows.<br />
Dr. Patel: Why
crows?<br />
Prabhupada: Crows will never come to a nice place. They'll go to the
filthy place, where everything rubbish is thrown out. The crow will take
advantage of it: "Oh, here is enjoyable thing." Tad vayasam tirtham. So we have
been educated to become vayasa, crows, useless black bird. There are other
birds also, but these... Amongst the birds, these crows are most disliked by
everyone. So our present literature and taste of literature is like that, crows.
"Ka, ka, ka, ka." Even amongst the birds, they'll find swan, white swan. And
they're black crows. Nature's division is so nice. Na yad vacas citra-padam
harer yaso pragrnita karhicit tad vayasam tirtham usanti manasa [SB 1.5.10].
That is rejected by the manasa. Manasa means the birds who live in the
mana-sarovara, just like ducks and swans.<br />
Dr. Patel: Hamsas.<br />
Prabhupada:
Hamsas. They live in a very nice clean water, garden. Usanti manasa. They do not
go there. Now they are making so much propaganda against our men, but these boys
will never go to cinema. Usanti manasa. They are boys. They have no attraction,
restaurant and cinema. You'll never find. Usanti manasa. They have rejected. And
we see others -- they are making line, queue. Yes. Why? Vayasam tirtham. They
like that. Crows like... They have been educated like crows.<br />
Dr. Patel: They
feed on the filth. This is one difficulty. All people are mad after the
cinema.<br />
Prabhupada: They will wait four hours, five hours, standing. Why
cinema? I have seen in London the British Museum. Something came there. From
morning there is a queue. Exactly like that, they were standing to go and see
the museum. Something came. I... Three, four years ago I saw. They were
standing. Just like here. For purchasing the cinema ticket they are standing and
eating nampalli, just to see, eyesight. They will not come to see Deity in the
temple. They'll not come. Mentality is different. It is a very dangerous
civilization, soul-killing civilization. We should be very, very careful if we
want success also. We shall go now? (end)</span></div>

Dear Devotees, <br />
Please support our cause by sharing the petition with your friends.<br />
Mahanidhi Swami has made an official statement in connection to his decision to resign from ISKCON. Below you will find it.<br />
Mahanidhi Swami claims innocence and that the allegations are a false rumor.<br />
We need your support now more than ever. Pressure is increasing on
the GBC Executive Committee to be more transparent in it's dealing with
Mahanidhi Swami. Help spread the word by sharing the petition.<br />
=============<br />
MAHANIDHI SWAMI’S LETTER AUGUST 13, 2013<br />
Sri Sri Guru Gauranga Jayate!<br />
Dear devotees and friends,<br />
Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.
For your consideration I offer the following explanation of the recent
events of my life.<br />
The Veda Purana says in Kali-yuga, disciples will become so
antagonistic, envious and ungrateful that they will even kill their own
Guru. Recently, a few disciples have accused me of improper behavior
with a female devotee, and that was publicized worldwide.<br />
Contrary to the thousands of false statements, distorted facts, wild
exaggerated stories and complete lies, I have never had any illicit
relations with a woman or man during my entire devotional life. Of
course, this is only possible by the mercy of my Gurudeva Srila
Prabhupada, Lord Gauranga and Sri Krishna’s Holy Names. And in no way
have I left my eternal divine holy master Srila Prabhupada, and ran away
with a woman or some other Guru.<br />
Why did I resign from ISKCON, the International Society for Krishna
Consciousness? By the 15th of June 2013, I observed that some
antagonistic disciples had formed a conspiracy, and then forcefully
spread slanderous allegations and completely false stories about my
character to the disciples, and then throughout India and overseas. Not
only was my name, reputation, disciple sanga, and preaching platform
destroyed, but so to was all the wonderful preaching being done by the
disciples. Seeing that permanent damage was already done, and feeling
that the situation was hopeless, I accepted it as Bhagavan Sri Krishna’s
sweet will. <br />
Now it seems that time had come to change the focus, and concentrate
on my personal internal spiritual development. At this time, I suddenly
remembered some important shiksha Srila Prabhupada gave in 1972. <br />
In that year, my Gurudeva Srila Prabhupada said, “Preach while you
are young. When you are old, retire to Vrndavana and chant Hare Krishna.
If you have preached sufficiently, you can retire to chant Hare
Krishna.” (Prabhupada Lilamrta Vol 5 pg. 94: 1983 ed.)<br />
I am sixty-three years old, and have spent the last forty years of my
life in ISKCON actively preaching and publishing books to spread the
science of Krishna
<br />Consciousness around the world. Feeling that I have preached
sufficiently, I thought now I can follow my Gurudeva’s siksha to retire
in Vrndavana and chant Hare Krishna. <br />
Thus, I resigned from the glorious preaching campaign of ISKCON to
spend the balance of my life at Radha Kunda in Sridhama Vrndavana,
chanting the sweet Holy Names of Sri Krishna, with the hope of someday
attaining the most cherished goal of Radha-Krishna prema, pure love of
God.
<br />In closing, I want to take this opportunity to humbly beg
forgiveness from any Vaisnava whom I may have offended during this most
difficult time of my life. Also, I want to it to be clearly understood
that I will always love and serve my eternal Gurudeva Srila Prabhupada,
and maintain the deepest respect and gratitude toward ISKCON and all the
devotees.
<br />And if Bhagavan Sri Krishna blesses me, then in the future I may
receive the good fortune to render a little service for the pleasure of
the Vaisnavas.<br />
Jai Jai Sri Radhe!
<br />Vaisnavadasanudasa,
<br />Mahanidhi Swami august 13, 2013</div>

TRANSLATION</div>
During the reign of <a href="http://vedabase.net/m/maharaja">Mahārāja</a> <a href="http://vedabase.net/y/yudhisthira">Yudhiṣṭhira</a>,
the clouds showered all the water that people needed, and the earth
produced all the necessities of man in profusion. Due to its fatty milk
bag and cheerful attitude, the cow used to moisten the grazing ground
with milk.<br />
<div class="t">
<br /></div>
<div class="t" style="text-align: center;">
PURPORT</div>
The basic principle of economic
development is centered on land and cows. The necessities of human
society are food grains, fruits, milk, minerals, clothing, wood, etc.
One requires all these items to fulfill the material needs of the body.
Certainly one does not require flesh and fish or iron tools and
machinery. During the regime of <a href="http://vedabase.net/m/maharaja">Mahārāja</a> <a href="http://vedabase.net/y/yudhisthira">Yudhiṣṭhira</a>,
all over the world there were regulated rainfalls. Rainfalls are not in
the control of the human being. The heavenly King Indradeva is the
controller of rains, and he is the servant of the Lord. When the Lord is
obeyed by the king and the people under the king's administration,
there are regulated rains from the horizon, and these rains are the
causes of all varieties of production on the land. Not only do regulated
rains help ample production of grains and fruits, but when they combine
with astronomical influences there is ample production of valuable
stones and pearls. Grains and vegetables can sumptuously feed a man and
animals, and a fatty cow delivers enough milk to supply a man
sumptuously with vigor and vitality. If there is enough milk, enough
grains, enough fruit, enough cotton, enough silk and enough jewels, then
why do the people need cinemas, houses of prostitution,
slaughterhouses, etc.? What is the need of an artificial luxurious life
of cinema, cars, radio, flesh and hotels? Has this civilization produced
anything but quarreling individually and nationally? Has this
civilization enhanced the cause of equality and fraternity by sending
thousands of men into a hellish factory and the war fields at the whims
of a particular man?<br />
It is said here that the cows used to moisten
the pasturing land with milk because their milk bags were fatty and the
animals were joyful. Do they not require, therefore, proper protection
for a joyful life by being fed with a sufficient quantity of grass in
the field? Why should men kill cows for their selfish purposes? Why
should man not be satisfied with grains, fruits and milk, which,
combined together, can produce hundreds and thousands of palatable
dishes. Why are there slaughterhouses all over the world to kill
innocent animals? <a href="http://vedabase.net/m/maharaja">Mahārāja</a> <a href="http://vedabase.net/p/pariksit">Parīkṣit</a>, grandson of <a href="http://vedabase.net/m/maharaja">Mahārāja</a> <a href="http://vedabase.net/y/yudhisthira">Yudhiṣṭhira</a>,
while touring his vast kingdom, saw a black man attempting to kill a
cow. The King at once arrested the butcher and chastised him
sufficiently. Should not a king or executive head protect the lives of
the poor animals who are unable to defend themselves? Is this humanity?
Are not the animals of a country citizens also? Then why are they
allowed to be butchered in organized slaughterhouses? Are these the
signs of equality, fraternity and nonviolence?<br />
Therefore, in contrast with the modern, advanced, civilized form of government, an autocracy like <a href="http://vedabase.net/m/maharaja">Mahārāja</a> <a href="http://vedabase.net/y/yudhisthira">Yudhiṣṭhira</a>'s
is by far superior to a so-called democracy in which animals are killed
and a man less than an animal is allowed to cast votes for another
less-than-animal man.<br />
We are all creatures of material nature. In the Bhagavad-<a href="http://vedabase.net/g/gita">gītā</a>
it is said that the Lord Himself is the seed-giving father and material
nature is the mother of all living beings in all shapes. Thus mother
material nature has enough foodstuff both for animals and for men, by
the grace of the Father Almighty, <a href="http://vedabase.net/s/sri">Śrī</a> <a href="http://vedabase.net/k/krsna">Kṛṣṇa</a>.
The human being is the elder brother of all other living beings. He is
endowed with intelligence more powerful than animals for realizing the
course of nature and the indications of the Almighty Father. Human
civilizations should depend on the production of material nature without
artificially attempting economic development to turn the world into a
chaos of artificial greed and power only for the purpose of artificial
luxuries and sense gratification. This is but the life of dogs and hogs.<br />
<br />
<br />
<a class="v" href="http://vedabase.net/sb/en">Śrīmad Bhāgavatam</a> 1.10.6 Purport:<br />
<u><b>To be nonviolent to human beings and to be a killer or enemy of the poor
animals is Satan's philosophy.</b></u> In this age there is enmity toward poor
animals, and therefore the poor creatures are always anxious. The
reaction of the poor animals is being forced on human society, and
therefore there is always the strain of cold or hot war between men,
individually, collectively or nationally. At the time of <a href="http://vedabase.net/m/maharaja">Mahārāja</a> <a href="http://vedabase.net/y/yudhisthira">Yudhiṣṭhira</a>,
there were no different nations, although there were different
subordinate states. The whole world was united, and the supreme head,
being a trained king like <a href="http://vedabase.net/y/yudhisthira">Yudhiṣṭhira</a>,
kept all the inhabitants free from anxiety, diseases and excessive heat
and cold. They were not only economically well-to-do, but also
physically fit and undisturbed by supernatural power, by enmity from
other living beings and by disturbance of bodily and mental agonies.
There is a proverb in Bengali that a bad king spoils the kingdom and a
bad housewife spoils the family. This truth is applicable here also.
Because the King was pious and obedient to the Lord and sages, because
he was no one's enemy and because he was a recognized agent of the Lord
and therefore protected by Him, all the citizens under the King's
protection were, so to speak, directly protected by the Lord and His
authorized agents. Unless one is pious and recognized by the Lord, he
cannot make others happy who are under his care. There is full
cooperation between man and God and man and nature, and this conscious
cooperation between man and God and man and nature, as exemplified by
King <a href="http://vedabase.net/y/yudhisthira">Yudhiṣṭhira</a>, can
bring about happiness, peace and prosperity in the world. The attitude
of exploiting one another, the custom of the day, will only bring
misery.</div>

</span><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;">
<div align="justify">
<br />So here it is recommended, satam prasangat, talks between
devotees. Satam means devotee, not ordinary person; those who are devotees, sat.
Sat and asat. There are two things. Sat means which exists, and asat mean which
does not exist -- temporary. That is called asat. This material world is asat.
Therefore Vedic injunction is asato ma sad gama: "Don't keep yourself within
this material world." (aside:) That child... Asato ma.</div>
</span>
<div align="justify">
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;"><br />So people who are interested in
materialistic life, they are called asat. Caitanya Mahaprabhu was asked by a
devotee that "What is the behavior of a Vaisnava, of devotee?" Vaisnava means
devotee. (aside:) Who is this? Who is making noise? So Caitanya Mahaprabhu,
being inquired, "What is the duty of a devotee?" (aside:) ...what is the
sound?</span></div>
<div align="justify">
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;"><br />Brahmananda: They're doing it
purposely.</span></div>
<div align="justify">
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;"><br />Prabhupada: Oh, that's all right.
That's all right. Never mind. Caitanya Mahaprabhu said, asat-sanga-tyaga, ei
vaisnava-acara [Cc. Madhya 22.87]. Asat-sanga-tyaga, ei vaisnava-acara. He, in
one line, He said that "First of all, Vaisnava, his business is to avoid the
company of asat." Asat means those who are materialistic interest. Asatah. Asato
ma sad gama. This is very important thing. We have established this Krsna
consciousness society -- means that to avoid the asat-sanga, to avoid the... Of
course, we are preaching Krsna consciousness amongst the people who are
interested in material subject matter. But we are not associating with them. We
are associating with Krsna, because we don't talk anything except Krsna. We are
not interested with their business. Everyone is interested with his own
business. Similarly, we are interested with our own business, Krsna
consciousness business. Even if we go to a materialistic person, we canvass,
"Kindly become our member. Kindly read this book. Purchase this book," so we are
not going to take their activities. We are trying to bring them in our
activities.</span></div>
<div align="justify">
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;"><br />So asat-sanga-tyaga,
vaisnava-acara. The Vaisnava, he should be always careful not to intermingle,
means not to take up their ideas and thoughts. No. That is vaisnava-acara.
Asat-sanga-tyaga, ei vaisnava. And why they should be avoided? Asat eka
stri-sangi, krsna-abhakta. Who is asat? Asat means those who are very much
attached to sense gratification. Sense... The culmination of sense gratification
is sex life. So those who are too much attached to sex life, stri-sangi, and
krsna-abhakta, and not devotee of Krsna, they are asat. So those who are
actually serious to make advance in spiritual life, they should avoid the
asat.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;">
<div align="center">
<br /><em>asat-sanga-tyaga-ei vaisnava-acara<br />'stri-sangi'-eka
asadhu, 'krsnabhakta' ara</em></div>
</span><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;">
<div align="justify">
<br />So if we discriminate like this, then we shall be
advancing. Apavarga-vartmani. Taj-josanad asu apavarga-vartmani sraddha bhaktir
anukramisyati. Just like if we are diseased, there is infectious disease,
epidemic, so we should be careful not to be infected by the infectious disease.
Sri Sanatana Gosvami said in Hari-bhakti-vilasa... He has written one book, "The
Behavior of the Vaisnava," Hari-bhakti-vilasa. So in that book he has
recommended, avaisnava-mukhodgirnam putam hari-kathamrtam, sravanam naiva
kartavyam. He has said that "One who is not Vaisnava by his behavior, by his
action, by his mode of life, if he speaks something from sastra, especially
hari-katha..." Hari-katha means Bhagavad-gita, the Puranas, out of which the
Bhagavata, Mahapurana. So we should not hear from a professional reader, or
avaisnava, or Mayavadi. Caitanya Mahaprabhu has warned, mayavadi-bhasya sunile
haya sarva-nasa [Cc. Madhya 6.169]. If we hear Bhagavad-gita -- that is
krsna-katha, hari-katha -- we should not hear from the Mayavadis or avaisnava.
Then it will not be effective.</div>
</span>
<div align="justify">
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;"><br />There are so many Mayavadis and
avaisnava, they practically do not accept Krsna even the Supreme Personality of
Godhead, and they dare to speak on Bhagavad-gita. Just see the fun. He does not
accept Bhagavad-gita as it is, and he wants to comment and give his tika. So
you'll never derive any benefit. Therefore here it is said, satam prasangat. You
should hear Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam from the devotees, not from a
third-class man, no. Third class means those who are materialistic. So therefore
Caitanya Mahaprabhu has warned that mayavadi-bhasya sunile haya sarva-nasa. If
you happen to hear from a Mayavadi, impersonalist, who does not accept Krsna as
the Supreme Personality of Godhead, or does not know what is Krsna, if such
person reads Bhagavad-gita and Srimad-Bhagavatam, you will never derive any
benefit. You can go on hearing them for hundreds of years; still, you will never
understand what is Krsna. That is forbidden. Sanatana Gosvami has forbidden,
that avaisnava-mukhodgirnam putam hari-kathamrtam. Hari-katha, talks, discussion
on Hari, or Krsna, that is amrta. Amrta means nectarine. If one hears, then he
gets his amrta. Amrtatvam.</span></div>
<div align="justify">
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;"><br />So amrtatvaya kalpate. Amrta
means no more birth and death. Mrta means birth and death, mrtyu, but amrta
means to stop birth and death. The whole spiritual life means to stop this
birth, death, old age and disease, to get amrta, no more birth, no more death.
That is the real aim of spiritual life. Of course, as it is stated in the
Bhagavad-gita, the spiritual life begins if one is pious, if one is pious. Arto
artharthi jijnasuh. Catur-vidha bhajante mam. Krsna said, "Four classes of
men..." Catur-vidha bhajante mam sukrtinah arjuna. Sukrti. Sukrti means pious.
One who has got background, pious life, not impious life, sinful life, such
pious men, out of them, four classes of men, catur-vidhah, they come to
devotional life, begins. Who are they? Artah, those who are distress; Artah
artharthi, those who want some money; jijnasuh, those who are inquisitive; and
jnani. So arto artharthi, they are in the lower grade. And jnani and jijnasuh,
they are in the higher grade. But still, they are not pure devotee, because they
want something. Artah, the distressed, he comes to Krsna in the temple or in the
church to beg something, material profit. That is also good because he has come
to Krsna. "Krsna, I am distressed. Kindly save me from this distressed
condition." "Krsna, I require some money. Kindly, if You give me some money, I
can live very peacefully." Generally. So because they have come to Krsna,
therefore they are called sukrtinah. Sukrtinah means pious. And there are
others, who are duskrtina, impious, sinful. Na mam duskrtino mudhah prapadyante
naradhamah [Bg. 7.15]. They are not even human being who do not accept the
authority of the Supreme Lord. Duskrtino mudhah. And they have been described as
mudhah. Mudha means rascal, foolish. Real meaning of mudha is ass. So those who
are like that, duskrtinah, and full of impious activities, naradhamah, lowest of
the mankind, mayayapahrta-jnanah, whose knowledge has been taken away by the
illusory energy, na mam prapadyante, they do not accept Krsna, the Supreme
Personality of Godhead.</span></div>
<div align="justify">
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;"><br />So in order to become a devotee
of Krsna we must associate with devotee. Satam prasangan mama virya-samvidah.
Then, by reciprocation with devotees, if one is... One comes to devotee also if
one is pious. If something is there on the background, piety, then he comes to a
devotee. So by mixing with devotee, by associating with devotee, our knowledge
for salvation or getting out of the clutches of this maya, repetition of birth
and death, increases. Satam prasangan mama virya-samvidah. The discussion on
krsna-katha is viryavan. Just like when there is sex life, if the man is
viryavan, there will be pregnancy. Similarly, if we hear from devotee, then
immediate action will be there, some inclination that "Why not become Krsna
conscious?" That is viryavan. "Why not become Krsna conscious?" That is called
sraddha. Sraddha bhaktir anukramisyati. Taj-josanad asu apavarga-vartmani
sraddha. This is called sraddha. If, by hearing from the devotees or in the
association of devotees, one is inclined, "Now, why not become Krsna conscious?"
that is very nice, sukrtinah, immediately the effect of pious activities. Adau
sraddha. That is the beginning of spiritual life. And if you want to develop
your spiritual life more and more, then satam prasangat, then you have to
associate with devotees. Adau sraddha tatah sadhu-sangah [Cc. Madhya
23.14-15].</span></div>
<div align="justify">
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;"><br />And sadhu we have described
already in three, four verses. The summary -- a sadhu means a devotee. Api cet
su-duracaro bhajate mam ananya-bhak. Ananya-bhavena, without any deviation,
unflinching, staunch devotee, they are called sadhu. So we have to associate
with sadhu. Satam prasangat. When you discuss about Krsna with sadhu or
devotees, it becomes very pleasing. Satam prasangan mama virya-samvido bhavanti
hrt-karna-rasayanah [SB 3.25.25]. Rasayanah means there is some taste. Just like
you eat something; there is some taste. That is called rasa, or mellow. Then...
Just like in the Bhagavad-gita Krsna says, raso 'ham apsu kaunteya [Bg. 7.8].
Rasa. Rasa means when you are thirsty, when you drink water, you taste something
very nice to quench your thirst. So Krsna has instructed that "To begin with,
you can think of Me, aham, while you drink water." It is not difficult. Everyone
can practice it, so easy thing. Everyone can practice it. Everyone drinks water,
and the rasa, the taste, the nice taste, when you are thirsty, how it is
palatable by drinking water. Without water, sometimes we die, and by getting
little sip of water, we live. Water is so important. So water, we drink
everyone, and there is rasa, that taste. That taste, if we simply think, "Here
is Krsna," very easy thing... Raso 'ham apsu kaunteya prabhasmi sasi-suryayoh
[Bg. 7.8]. As soon as you see the sunlight in the morning, you can think. Krsna
says. Why do you say, "Can you show me God?" God is showing you Himself. Why
don't you see it? If you close your eyes, how you can see God? He says, "I am
this." According to our position...</span></div>
<div align="justify">
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;"><br />Just like here it is said,
sraddha ratir bhaktir anukramisyati. Anukrama means gradually, not that all of a
sudden you can expect to see God, but you become qualified to see God. This is
the way. Sraddha ratir bhaktir anukramisyati. Adau sraddha. Just like with
sraddha. Somebody is thinking, "This hari-kirtana is nuisance." They are amongst
those, duskrtino mudhah. Those (who) are thinking that this hari-kirtana,
hari-katha, which we are trying to spread all over the world, and they are
accepting all over the world... And in India, especially here in Bombay, they
are sending complaints to the police that we are creating nuisance. Just see the
fun. Where Krsna is born and krsna-katha is there, Bhagavad-gita -- we have not
imported this book from elsewhere -- now we are so fallen that we are thinking
that "This krsna-katha, this chanting of Hare Krsna, is creating nuisance." Just
see how much we have advanced after getting independence. They are complaining
that we are creating nuisance. Satatam kirtayanto mam yatantas ca drdha-vratah
[Bg. 9.14]. Kirtana is recommended in the Bhagavad-gita satatam, always,
twenty-four hours. Satatam kirtayanto mam yatantas ca drdha-vratah [Bg. 9.14].
And worshiping the Deity with attention, with care. These things are going on
here, and people are complaining we are creating nuisance. Just see. Asat is so
dangerous. Therefore we have to create a society of sat. Then the world will be
saved. Otherwise they are going to the hellish condition of
life.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;">
<div align="center">
<br /><em>na te viduh svartha-gatim hi visnum<br />durasaya ye

<div align="justify">
<br />So if we want to save ourself-We do not know how to save.
Gadurika-pravaha. Gadurika-pravaha-nyaya. There is a logic of gadurika-pravaha.
One man is doing something, and another man is following. Of course, if you
follow a saj-jana, a devotee, that is very nice. But if you follow a rascal,
then you also become rascal. But at the present moment the whole world is full
of rascals, mudhah, duskrtinah, naradhamah. "Why do you call mudhah duskrtinah
naradhamah? There is so much advancement of education. There are so many
universities, so many degrees." But Krsna says, mayayapahrta-jnanah: [Bg. 7.15]
"Their so-called knowledge has no value because the essence of knowledge is
taken away by the illusion." "Now why you say? They are educated. No, their
knowledge has been taken away? Why? What is the reason?" The reason is asuram
bhavam asritah: "They have taken to the nonsense philosophy of godlessness."
That's it. For this reason their so-called education, university education,
degrees, are simply illusion of maya.</div>
</span>
<div align="justify">
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;"><br />Bhaktivinoda Thakura has sung one
song, jada-vidya jato, mayara vaibhava. This material education without God
consciousness is expansion of the influence of maya. Jada-vidya jato, mayara
vaibhava, tomara bhajane badha. They are simply impediments in the matter of
advancing Krsna consciousness. Tomara bhajane badha. Anitya samsare. And why?
Now, result of godless material education means that anitya samsare moha
janamiya. We are already illusioned. Anyone who has come to this material world,
he is illusioned. But advancement of so-called material education means the
increasing of the same illusory propaganda. Jada-vidya jato, mayara vaibhava,
tomara bhajane badha, anitya samsare moha janamiya. They are trying to become
happy in this temporary material life. He has forgotten that he is eternal. Even
if we become very happy, temporary life in this life, that will also illusion
because we will not be allowed to stay and enjoy the status. But they do not
understand.</span></div>
<div align="justify">
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;"><br />So these things are to be
understood in the association of devotees. A devotee knows everything.
Tattva-darsinah.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;">
<div align="center">
<br /><em>tad viddhi pranipatena<br />pariprasnena
sevaya<br />upadeksyanti te jnanam<br />jnaninas tattva-darsinah<br /> [Bg.
4.34]</em></div>
</span><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;">
<div align="justify">
<br />Tattva-darsi means who has actually seen the truth. Om
tat sat. One who has seen the Supreme Truth. That Supreme Truth is Krsna.
Therefore Krsna says that "You are searching after the truth. You are studying
the Vedic literature, Vedanta-darsana. That is very good. But what is the goal
of Vedanta-darsana?" Veda means knowledge, and anta means the end, Vedanta, the
ultimate knowledge. What is that? Vedais ca sarvair aham eva vedyah [Bg. 15.15].
Krsna says that "If you are actually studying Vedanta, then ultimately you have
to understand Me." Vedais ca sarvair aham eva vedyo vedanta-krd veda-vid eva
caham: "I am the compiler of Vedanta, and I understand. I am the knower of
Vedanta." So if you hear from Krsna what is Krsna, that is actually
understanding Vedanta. If you do not understand Krsna and if you simply
advertise yourself Vedanti, that will not help you.</div>
</span>
<div align="justify">
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;"><br />Therefore, without this
knowledge, there is... They have been called in the Bhagavad-gita as mudhah.
Mudho 'yam nabhijanati, mohitam [Bg. 7.25].</span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;">
<div align="center">
<br /><em>tribhir gunamayair bhavair<br />ebhih sarvam idam
jagat<br />mohitam nabhijanati<br />mam ebhyah param avyayam<br /> [Bg.
7.13]</em></div>
</span><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;">
<div align="justify">
<br />The mudhas, they do not know it. So anyone who is in this
material world, more or less, we are all mudhas. This morning I was walking
while walking on the beach. More or less, we are all mudhas. Without being
mudhah, nobody comes here in this material world. Beginning from Brahma down to
the small ant, we are all mudhas of different degrees. So in order to become
really learned, not to remain mudha, we have to associate with devotee. Satam
prasangan mama virya-samvidah. Then it will be relishable. Relishable. Satam
prasangan mama virya-samvidah. When it is relishable... Actually, when you take
some foodstuff, if it is relishable, it gives you contentment, "Oh, very nice
food." So bhavanti hrt: "It is pleasing to the heart." "Oh, such a nice food."
And pleasing to the tongue. Similarly, when krsna-katha is discussed amongst the
devotees, it is pleasing to the heart and pleasing to the ear. Unless you taste,
relish something through the ear and through the heart, how you can steadily
follow krsna-katha? So that requires little training. And that training is given
by the devotees, by their practical life, by their daily behavior, their routine
work. If we follow, taj-josanat... Josanat means to practice, is it not? What is
given, josanat? Cultivation, yes. Cultivation means practice.
Practice.</div>
</span>
<div align="justify">
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;"><br />So the acaryas and the devotee,
big, big devotees, they have given the routine work for cultivation. Just like
we have got this Nectar of Devotion, how to cultivate devotional life. It is
being very well received in European, American universities. In some of the
universities they have made our Nectar of Devotion as textbook, "The Science of
Bhakti." So there is everything. If we want to cultivate bhakti, it is not
sentiment. Sentiment, of course, that may remain for some time. But it is a
great science. We have to learn it scientifically. That is The Nectar of
Devotion, the science of devotional life. So those who are interested, they may
kindly read this book, Nectar of Devotion, cultivation. Taj-josanat. And
practical cultivation -- if you live with the devotees, in the association, then
there will be practical cultivation: to rise early in the morning, to offer
mangala-aratrika to the Deity, then study some Vedic literature, then take
prasadam, then do this, do that. They go for preaching. Actually, this Krsna
consciousness movement, practically showing how to cultivate the devotional
life, taj-josanat. And if we do so, then asu. Asu means very soon, without
delay, even in this life. Even in this life, not that we have to wait for
another life. If we practice devotional service in this life, even for few days,
still, it will be a permanent asset.</span></div>
<div align="justify">
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;"><br />Tyaktva sva-dharmam caranambujam
harer bhajann apakvo 'tha patet tato yadi [SB 1.5.17]. If one takes to
devotional service, tyaktva sva-dharmam, giving up his routine duty...
Sva-dharma means the brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra. They have got the
all..., or brahmacari, grhastha, vanaprastha. They have got their particular
duties. But nobody is following any duty. They are creating their own duty. So
anyway, somehow or other, if one takes to Krsna consciousness, tyaktva
sva-dharmam caranambujam hareh, and practices for some time regularly, then
again, due to bad association or by something, he falls down, so sastra says
that "What is the loss? There is no loss. On the other hand, if a person is
executing his occupational duties very nicely, but he does not know what is
Krsna conscious, then what is the gain? There is no gain." No gain. Even if you
become very pious by acting as a strict brahmana or a sannyasi, but if you do
not understand what is Krsna, then there is no gain. It is simply waste of
time.</span></div>
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;">
<div align="center">
<br /><em>dharmah svanusthitah pumsam<br />visvaksena-kathasu
yah<br />notpadayed yadi ratim<br />srama eva hi kevalam<br /> [SB
1.2.8]</em></div>
</span><span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;">
<div align="justify">
<br />This is the verdict of Vyasadeva. Srama eva hi kevalam.
You are very nice, executing your occupational duties. Dharmah svanusthitah.
Svanusthitah. You are brahmana. That's nice. You are executing the brahmana's
duties very nicely, or a ksatriya, or a vaisya, or a medical man, engineer,
whatever you may be. That's all right. Dharmah svanusthitah pumsam
visvaksena-kathasu yah. But if, by executing your professional or occupational
duties, you do not develop Krsna consciousness... That is the main business of
human life, Krsna consciousness. So then dharmah svanusthitah pumsam
visvaksena-katha... [SB 1.2.8]. Visvaksena-katha means krsna-katha. Notpadayed
yadi ratim. If you do not become inclined, sraddha, this sraddha of krsna-katha,
then whatever you are doing -- simply wasting your time, and it is a labor of
love only, that's all. Srama eva hi kevalam. And a devotee, even if he falls
down by chance... There is every possibility of falling down because maya is
very strong. And it is a fight against maya. Daivi hy esa gunamayi mama maya
duratyaya [Bg. 7.14]. Duratyaya. Maya is very strong. We are getting experience.
Some of them are falling down. But still, whatever he has done sincerely, that
is a permanent credit of his account.</div>
</span>
<div align="justify">
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;"><br />That is confirmed in the
Bhagavad-gita, that yoga-bhrastah. Bhrasta means falls down, fallen down. So he
has got the asset. Therefore he's not going to the other species of life. He's
getting again a human form of life. That is a great profit, because we have to
change our body. Tatha dehantara-praptih [Bg. 2.13]. And that... We do not know.
Krsna does not say what kind of body, but there are so many, 8,400,000. Any one
of them can happen. But a devotee who has fallen down, he is guaranteed again
human life. And what kind of human life? Sucinam srimatam gehe yoga-bhrasto
'bhijayate [Bg. 6.41]. He'll get a life, human being, in a very rich family or
in a very pious family. Those who are more advanced, they will get their next
birth in a pious brahmana family, very pure brahmana family or Vaisnava family.
That is called sucinam. And srimatam. Sri means wealth or beauty. Very rich
family, beautiful body he will get. So those who have got their birth in
high-class brahmana Vaisnava family and those who have got their birth in rich
very aristocratic family, they should consider that "This advantage is given to
me by Krsna. Because in my last life I could not finish my business of
bhakti-yoga, now I have got it." Therefore I said to the Americans that "You
have got wealth; you have got education; you have got beauty. This is the asset
of your pious life. Now you utilize it for Krsna consciousness. Then your life
is perfect." So not only in America, everywhere, it is not easy that one man is
born immediately very rich and one man is born in very poor family or very ugly
family. There is distinction. There is some superior authority. It is not
accident. Karmana daiva-netrena jantur dehopapattaye [SB 3.31.1]. A living
entity gets his body by superior administration, by nature's quality. There is
big science.</span></div>
<div align="justify">
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;"><br />So if you become Krsna conscious,
then your life is secure, guaranteed. If you make complete the Krsna conscious
life in this life, then tyaktva deham punar janma naiti mam eti [Bg. 4.9]. That
is wanted. But don't be neglectful. Those who have taken to Krsna consciousness,
they should be very serious. Why should you take another chance of getting birth
in a very rich family or a brahmana family? That is also risky because it is not
guarantee. Because generally, those who are rich, they don't care for Krsna
consciousness. "Oh, this Krsna consciousness is meant for the poor fellow." Or
if somebody is born in a brahmana family, he is also puffed up. He is thinking,
"Oh, these are mlecchas, yavanas, Americans. Oh, I am brahmana. I am born in a
very high family." That is a cause of falldown, yes, proud, pride, unnecessary
pride. A Vaisnava is very humble. Trnad api sunicena taror api sahisnuna amanina
manadena. We have already discussed. Titiksavah karunikah suhrdah sarva-dehinam
[SB 3.25.21].</span></div>
<div align="justify">
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;"><br />So these are the chance, human
being, and there is Krsna consciousness movement, there is Krsna, Krsna is
advising personally -- so many opportunities offered by this Krsna consciousness
movement. Why don't you take it? If you don't take it, then you are committing
suicide.</span></div>
<div align="justify">
<span style="font-family: Arial; font-size: x-small;"><br />Thank you very much. Hare Krsna.

The United States incarcerates more people than any other country in the
world—more even than China or Russia. Prof. Daniel J. D'Amico explains
that as of 2010 more than 1.6 million people were serving jail sentences
in America. Professor D'Amico suggests that "prisons are not what we
think about when we think of America, and they shouldn't have to be."
According to D'Amico, a free country should not have 1.6 million people
in prison, and a fiscally responsible country cannot afford to. As Prof.
D'Amico points out, it is time for Americans to recognize that the U.S.
criminal justice system is desperately in need of reform.<br />

Europe launched a special satellite called Gravity field and
steady state ocean circulation explorer ( Goce) in 2009 .The satellite
contained very sensitive instruments for measuring the subtle
gravitational force in various parts of the world. The results were
presented two days ago at the Earth symposium in Norway and the results
are simply stunning.<br />
India is different from rest of the world and shares a very intense
gravity field. The ancients always called India ” Karma Bhoomi ” and
America was called ” Bhoga Bhoomi “. Now this is the final proof for
that statement. It is said any religious ceremony done in the Usa is not
of much use due to it being a Bhoga bhoomi and any activity done in
India yields multifold results . Also gravity is an important factor
that is considered in Agama sastra for proper construction of
Temples.Also the western countries will work well for a person who has
an exalted sun in one’s horoscope , their fame will be found in those
countries. Vedic astrology does a good job of predicting which country
would suit oneself in the pursuit of a career. For spiritual purposes
nothing beats the Indian soil for any kind of sadhana.<br />

<strong>It is one of the most exquisite views we have ever had of the Earth.</strong><br />
This colourful new map traces the subtle but all pervasive influence the pull of gravity has across the globe.<br />
Known as a geoid, it essentially defines where the level surface is
on our planet; it tells us which way is “up” and which way is “down”.<br />
It is drawn from delicate measurements made by Europe’s Goce
satellite, which flies so low it comes perilously close to falling out
of the sky.<br />
Scientists say the data gathered by the spacecraft will have numerous applications.<br />
One key beneficiary will be climate studies because the geoid can
help researchers understand better how the great mass of ocean water is
moving heat around the world.<br />
The new map was presented here in Norway’s second city at a special
Earth observation (EO) symposium dedicated to the data being acquired
by Goce and other European Space Agency (Esa) missions.<br />
Europe is currently in the midst of a huge programme of EO
development which will see it launch some 20 missions worth nearly
eight billion euros before the decade’s end.<br />
The Gravity Field and Steady-State Ocean Circulation Explorer (Goce)
is at the front of this armada of scientific and environmental
monitoring spacecraft.<br />
<strong>Imaginary ball</strong><br />
Launched in 2009, the sleek satellite flies pole to pole at an
altitude of just 254.9km – the lowest orbit of any research satellite
in operation today.<br />
The spacecraft carries three pairs of precision-built platinum
blocks inside its gradiometer instrument that sense accelerations which
are as small as 1 part in 10,000,000,000,000 of the gravity experienced
on Earth.<br />
This has allowed it to map the almost imperceptible differences in
the pull exerted by the mass of the planet from one place to the next –
from the great mountain ranges to the deepest ocean trenches.<br />
Two months of observations have now been fashioned into what scientists call the geoid.<br />
“I think everyone knows what a level is in relation to construction
work, and a geoid is nothing but a level that extends over the entire
Earth,” explained Professor Reiner Rummel, the chairman of the Goce
scientific consortium.<br />
“So with the geoid, I can take two arbitrary points on the globe and
decide which one is ‘up’ and which one is ‘down’,” the Technische
Universitaet Muenchen researcher told BBC News.<br />
In other words, the map on this page defines the horizontal – a
surface on which, at any point, the pull of gravity is perpendicular to
it.<br />
Put a ball on this hypothetical surface and it will not roll – even
though it appears to have “slopes”. These slopes can be seen in the
colours which mark how the global level diverges from the generalised
(an ellipsoid) shape of the Earth.<br />
In the North Atlantic, around Iceland, the level sits about 80m
above the surface of the ellipsoid; in the Indian Ocean it sits about
100m below.<br />
The geoid is of paramount interest to oceanographers because it is
the shape the world’s seas would adopt if there were no tides, no winds
and no currents.<br />
If researchers then subtract the geoid from the actual observed
behaviour of the oceans, the scale of these other influences becomes
apparent.<br />
This is information critical to climate modellers who try to
represent the way the oceans manage the transfer of energy around the
planet.<br />
But a geoid has many other uses, too. Having a global level underpins a universal system to compare heights anywhere on Earth.<br />
In construction, for example, it tells engineers which way a fluid would naturally want to flow through a pipeline.<br />
Geophysicists will also want to use the Goce data to try to probe
what’s happening deep within the Earth, especially in those places that
are prone to quakes and volcanic eruptions.<br />
“The Goce data is showing up new information in the Himalayas,
central Africa, and the Andes, and in Antarctica,” explained Dr Rune
Floberghagen, Esa’s Goce mission manager.<br />
“This is, in one sense, not so surprising. These are places that are
fairly inaccessible. It is not easy to measure high frequency
variations in the gravity field in Antarctica with an aeroplane because
there are so few airfields from which to operate.”<br />
Goce’s extremely low operating altitude was expected to limit its
mission to a couple of years at most. But Esa now thinks it may be able
to continue flying the satellite until perhaps 2014.<br />
Unusually quiet solar activity has produced very calm atmospheric
conditions, meaning Goce has used far less xenon “fuel” in its ion
engine to maintain its orbit.<br />
Ultimately, though, that fuel will run out and the residual air
molecules at 255km will slow the satellite, forcing it from the sky.</div>The Bhagavat Solutionhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05932601489692776723noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6864438817716536176.post-18583430491369485672012-07-29T21:51:00.001+03:002012-07-29T21:52:32.845+03:00US military developing insect surveillance drones<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">

Reports
indicate the US military has poured huge sums of money into
surveillance drone miniaturization and is developing micro aircraft
which now come in a swarm of bug-sized flying spies.
</div>
<br />
<br />
According to various internet sources, a team of researchers at the
Johns Hopkins University in conjunction with the US Air Force Office of
Scientific Research at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Arlington,
Virginia, is helping develop what they are calling a micro aerial
vehicle (MAV) that will undertake various espionage tasks.
<br />
<br />
<blockquote>
The robotic insect can effortlessly infiltrate urban
areas, where dense concentrations of buildings and people, along with
unpredictable winds and other obstacles make it impractical.</blockquote>
<br />
It can be controlled from a great distance and is equipped with a camera and a built-in microphone.
<br />
<br />
The new device has the capability to land precisely on human skin,
use its super-micron sized needle to take DNA samples and fly off again
at speed. All people feel is the pain of a mosquito bite without the
burning sensation and the swelling of course.
<br />
<br />
<blockquote>
The hard-to-detect surveillance drone can also inject a
micro radio frequency identification (RFID) tracking device right under
skin, and can be used to inject toxins into enemies during wars.</blockquote>
<br />
As early as in 2007, the US government was accused of secretly
developing robotic insect spies when anti-war protesters in the United
States saw some flying objects similar to dragonflies or little
helicopters hovering above them.
<br />
<br />
The US is not alone in miniaturizing drones that imitate nature:
France, the Netherlands and Israel are also developing similar devices.
<br />
<br />
France has developed flapping wing bio-inspired micro drones. The
Netherlands BioMAV (Biologically Inspired AI for Micro Aerial Vehicles)
has also built Parrot AR drones.
<br />
<br />
<blockquote>
Meanwhile, Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has
produced a butterfly-shaped drone, weighing just 20 grams, which can
gather intelligence inside buildings.</blockquote>
<br />
The insect drone, with its 0.15-gram camera and memory card, is
managed remotely with a special helmet. Putting on the helmet, the
operator finds themselves in the “butterfly’s cockpit” and virtually
sees what the butterfly sees in real time.

<em>They
came as slaves; vast human cargo transported on tall British ships
bound for the Americas. They were shipped by the hundreds of thousands
and included men, women, and even the youngest of children. </em></div>
<div align="justify">
<em>Whenever they rebelled or even disobeyed an

their human property by their hands and set their hands or feet on fire
as one form of punishment. They were burned alive and had their heads
placed on pikes in the marketplace as a warning to other captives. </em></div>
<div align="justify">
<em>We don’t really need to go through all of the
gory details, do we? After all, we know all too well the atrocities of
the African slave trade. But, are we talking about African slavery? King
James II and Charles I led a continued effort to enslave the Irish.
Britain’s famed Oliver Cromwell furthered this practice of dehumanizing
one’s next door neighbor. </em></div>
<div align="justify">
The Irish slave trade began when James II sold 30,000
Irish prisoners as slaves to the New World. His Proclamation of 1625
required Irish political prisoners be sent overseas and sold to English
settlers in the West Indies. By the mid 1600s, the Irish were the main
slaves sold to Antigua and Montserrat. At that time, 70% of the total
population of Montserrat were Irish slaves. </div>
<div align="justify">
Ireland quickly became the biggest source of human
livestock for English merchants. The majority of the early slaves to the
New World were actually white. </div>
<div align="justify">
From 1641 to 1652, over 500,000 Irish were killed by
the English and another 300,000 were sold as slaves. Ireland’s
population fell from about 1,500,000 to 600,000 in one single decade.
Families were ripped apart as the British did not allow Irish dads to
take their wives and children with them across the Atlantic. This led to
a helpless population of homeless women and children. Britain’s
solution was to auction them off as well. </div>
<div align="justify">
During the 1650s, over 100,000 Irish children between
the ages of 10 and 14 were taken from their parents and sold as slaves
in the West Indies, Virginia and New England. In this decade, 52,000
Irish (mostly women and children) were sold to Barbados and Virginia.
Another 30,000 Irish men and women were also transported and sold to the
highest bidder. In 1656, Cromwell ordered that 2000 Irish children be
taken to Jamaica and sold as slaves to English settlers. </div>
<div align="justify">
Many people today will avoid calling the Irish slaves
what they truly were: Slaves. They’ll come up with terms like
“Indentured Servants” to describe what occurred to the Irish. However,
in most cases from the 17th and 18th centuries, Irish slaves were
nothing more than human cattle. </div>
<div align="justify">
As an example, the African slave trade was just
beginning during this same period. It is well recorded that African
slaves, not tainted with the stain of the hated Catholic theology and
more expensive to purchase, were often treated far better than their
Irish counterparts. </div>
<div align="justify">
African slaves were very expensive during the late
1600s (50 Sterling). Irish slaves came cheap (no more than 5 Sterling).
If a planter whipped or branded or beat an Irish slave to death, it was
never a crime. A death was a monetary setback, but far cheaper than
killing a more expensive African. The English masters quickly began
breeding the Irish women for both their own personal pleasure and for
greater profit. Children of slaves were themselves slaves, which
increased the size of the master’s free workforce. Even if an Irish
woman somehow obtained her freedom, her kids would remain slaves of her
master. Thus, Irish moms, even with this new found emancipation, would
seldom abandon their kids and would remain in servitude. </div>
<div align="justify">
In time, the English thought of a better way to use
these women (in many cases, girls as young as 12) to increase their
market share: The settlers began to breed Irish women and girls with
African men to produce slaves with a distinct complexion. These new
“mulatto” slaves brought a higher price than Irish livestock and,
likewise, enabled the settlers to save money rather than purchase new
African slaves. This practice of interbreeding Irish females with
African men went on for several decades and was so widespread that, in
1681, legislation was passed “forbidding the practice of mating Irish
slave women to African slave men for the purpose of producing slaves for
sale.” In short, it was stopped only because it interfered with the
profits of a large slave transport company. </div>
<div align="justify">
England continued to ship tens of thousands of Irish
slaves for more than a century. Records state that, after the 1798 Irish
Rebellion, thousands of Irish slaves were sold to both America and
Australia. There were horrible abuses of both African and Irish
captives. One British ship even dumped 1,302 slaves into the Atlantic
Ocean so that the crew would have plenty of food to eat. </div>
<div align="justify">
There is little question that the Irish experienced
the horrors of slavery as much (if not more in the 17th Century) as the
Africans did. There is, also, very little question that those brown,
tanned faces you witness in your travels to the West Indies are very
likely a combination of African and Irish ancestry. In 1839, Britain
finally decided on it’s own to end it’s participation in Satan’s highway
to hell and stopped transporting slaves. While their decision did not
stop pirates from doing what they desired, the new law slowly concluded
THIS chapter of nightmarish Irish misery. </div>
<div align="justify">
But, if anyone, black or white, believes that slavery was only an African experience, then they’ve got it completely wrong. </div>
<div align="justify">
Irish slavery is a subject worth remembering, not erasing from our memories. <br /><br />But, where are our public (and PRIVATE) schools???? Where are the history books? Why is it so seldom discussed? <br /><br />Do the memories of hundreds of thousands of Irish victims merit more than a mention from an unknown writer? <br /><br />Or
is their story to be one that their English pirates intended: To
(unlike the African book) have the Irish story utterly and completely
disappear as if it never happened. </div>
<div align="justify">
None of the Irish victims ever made it back to their
homeland to describe their ordeal. These are the lost slaves; the ones
that time and biased history books conveniently forgot. </div>

<br />Fancy yourself a vegetarian or vegan?<br />
Think that the label that says “organically grown” has anything to do
with the packaging, storage, and transport of that product to stores?<br />
What if I told you that cow, pig, and chicken collagen is now used in
place of wax on your fruits and vegetables, among many other things
much worse than you can probably imagine?<br />
And what if then I told you, as with most atrocities that happen now-a-days, that this is all approved by the FDA…<br />
Since the early 12th century, there has been a tradition of applying
wax onto the skins of fruits and vegetables for longer storage life.
Today, that tradition is being carried on with a whole new generation of
chemicals and compounds that are genetically designed to accomplish the
same goal. But in these modern times, the health and well-being of the
consumer of that apple is not necessarily the goal of this unnatural,
inorganic process.<br />
Bottom line… your produce is being dipped and sprayed with
an experimental host of holy horrors in the name of “food safety” and
longer shelf-life. Prepare yourself to be shocked and amazed that our
Federal agency that is designed to protect us, the Food and Drug
Administration, is allowing these dangerous and unhealthy practices to
be perpetrated on an unwitting public, all in the name of profits.<br />
This video was recently posted to Youtube, showing a woman peeling
off of her freshly bought supermarket romaine lettuce what appears to be
a plastic coating, similar to the type one would peal off of the screen
of a new electronic gadget. She has no idea what she has discovered…<br />

right to what the FDA has to say about what this strange plastic-like
substance is, and whether or not it approves of such food handling

Wow! That sounds so wonderfully official and scientific, doesn’t it?<br />
So what are these <em>“preventative control measures”</em> as referred to in this report?<br />
Well, for our purposes, since these measures are actually edible,
let’s explore what the FDA approves for our fruits and vegetables to be
dipped in and sprayed with for our own “safety”…<br />
The report states:<br />
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
This chapter addresses the use of modified
atmosphere packaging and controlled atmosphere packaging for the
preservation of fresh produce. There have been great technological
advances in this area of preservation, particularly as it refers to
improving the quality and shelf-stability of highly perishable food
products, such as produce. However, when using these technologies, <strong>careful attention must be paid to the effect on the survival and growth of pathogenic organisms</strong>.
This chapter focuses on food safety aspects of packaging technologies
that are either commercially available or under investigation…</div>
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
Over the past 20 years, there has been an
enormous increase in the demand for fresh fruit and vegetable products
that has required the industry to develop new and improved methods for
maintaining food quality and extending shelf life…</div>
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
One of the areas of research that has
shown promise, and had success, is that of modified atmosphere packaging
(MAP). This technique involves either actively or passively controlling
or modifying the atmosphere surrounding the product within a package
made of various types and/or combinations of<em> films</em>. In North
America, one of the first applications of this technology for fresh-cut
produce was introduced by McDonald’s (Brody 1995), which used MAP of
lettuce in bulk-sized packages to distribute the product to retail
outlets…</div>
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
A modified atmosphere can be defined as
one that is created by altering the normal composition of air (78%
nitrogen, 21% oxygen, 0.03% carbon dioxide and traces of noble gases) to
provide an optimum atmosphere for increasing the storage length and
quality of food/produce (Moleyar and Narasimham 1994; Phillips 1996).
This can be achieved by using <strong>controlled atmosphere storage (CAS)</strong> and/or active or passive<strong> modified atmosphere packaging (MAP)</strong>.</div>
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
The numerous film types used in MAP are
listed in Table VI-2 (see below), and some commercially available MAP
systems are listed in Table VI-3. Oxygen, CO2, and N2,
are most often used in MAP/CAS (Parry 1993; Phillips 1996). Other gases
such as nitrous and nitric oxides, sulphur dioxide, ethylene, chlorine
(Phillips 1996), as well as ozone and propylene oxide (Parry 1993) have
been suggested and investigated experimentally.</div>
So was that plastic looking film being peeled off of that supermarket
lettuce above actually one of many forms of modified atmosphere
packaging? Was it dipped in or sprayed by a “MAP” chemical compound for
“food safety”?<br />
Lets read further into this FDA report…<br />
<h3 style="padding-left: 30px;">
1.3. Films used in MAP</h3>
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
<strong>Edible biodegradable coatings are
yet another variant of the smart film technology, where a film is used
as a coating and applied directly on the food…</strong></div>
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
The use of MAP for whole and fresh-cut produce involves careful selection of the<strong> film</strong>
and package type for each specific product and package size . Effective
MAP of produce requires consideration of the optimal gas concentration,
product respiration rate, gas diffusion through the film, as well as
the optimal storage temperature in order to achieve the most benefit for
the product and consumer. In addition, when selecting an appropriate
film, one has to take into account the protection provided, as well as
the strength, sealability and clarity, machineability, ability to label,
and the gas gradient formed by the closed film (Zagory 1995).</div>
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
Recently, the long list of films and commercially available MAP systems has been augmented with the conception of both <strong>smart</strong> <strong>and edible packaging systems</strong> (Guilbert and others 1996; Phillips 1996). <strong>“Smart” or “intelligent” packaging is being used in the fresh-cut industry</strong>
and includes indicators of time and temperature, gas composition, seal
leakage, and food safety and quality (Rooney 2000). Some intelligent
systems alter package oxygen and /or carbon dioxide permeability by
sensing and responding to changes in temperature. Other smart films
incorporate chemicals into packets placed in the packaging system, with
no contact with the product; an example would be the use of O2 scavengers with O2
indicators. Another type of smart film, developed with food safety in
mind, is currently undergoing testing. This novel system, when
incorporated into a packaging film, uses an<strong> antibody detection system</strong>
to detect pathogens, and expresses a positive finding as a symbol on
the surface of the package, thereby alerting food handlers to the
presence of pathogens. Although this technology shows promise, it is
still in its infancy and comprehensive assessments have yet to be
performed. Several limitations have been suggested with this technology;
for example, it would not likely be able to detect pathogens at
concentrations below 104 CFU/g or cm2 and would not detect pathogens within the product.</div>
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
<strong>Edible biodegradable coatings are
yet another variant of the smart film technology, where a film is used
as a coating and applied directly on the food</strong> (Guilbert and
others 1996; Francis and others 1999). Wax has been used in China since
the 12th and 13th centuries as an edible coating to retard desiccation
of citrus fruits, and <strong>in the last 30 years, edible films and coatings made from a variety of <span style="text-decoration: underline;">compounds</span> have been reported</strong>.
Guilbert and others (1996) and Baldwin (1994) have extensively reviewed
some of the newer edible films (see Tables VI-3 and VI-5). These films
are gaining popularity due to both environmental pollution and food
safety concerns (Padgett and others 1998). <strong>However, a number of problems have also been associated with edible coatings</strong>. For example, modification of the internal gas composition of the product due to high CO2 and low O2
can cause problems such as anaerobic fermentation of apples and
bananas, rapid weight loss of tomatoes, elevated levels of core flush
for apples, rapid decay in cucumbers, and so on (Park and others 1994).</div>
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
Edible films may consist of four basic materials:<strong> lipids, resins, polysaccharides and proteins</strong>
(Baldwin and others 1995). Plasticizers such as glycerol as well as
cross-linking agents, antimicrobials, antioxidants, and texture agents
can be added to customize the film for a specific use (Guilbert and
others 1996). Plasticizers have the specific effect of increasing water
vapor permeability. Therefore, their addition must be considered when
calculating the desired water vapor properties of each specific film,
since too much moisture can create ideal growth conditions for some
foodborne pathogens. The most common plasticizer used to cast edible
films is food-grade polyethylene glycol, which is used to reduce film
brittleness (Koelsch 1994).</div>
<div style="padding-left: 60px;">
What is <strong>polyethylene glycol</strong>?</div>
<div style="padding-left: 60px;">

<div style="padding-left: 60px;">
Link – <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nephrotoxicity">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nephrotoxicity</a></div>
<div style="padding-left: 60px;">
What is a plasticizer?</div>
<div style="padding-left: 60px;">
<strong>Plasticizers</strong> (UK = <strong>plasticisers</strong>) or <strong>dispersants</strong>
are additives that increase the plasticity or fluidity of a material.
The dominant applications are for plastics, especially polyvinyl
chloride (PVC). The properties other materials are also improved when
blended plasticizers including concrete, clays, and related products.
The worldwide market for plasticizers in 2000 was estimated to be
several million tons per year.</div>
<div style="padding-left: 60px;">
Plasticizers work by embedding themselves
between the chains of polymers, spacing them apart (increasing the “free
volume”), and thus significantly lowering the glass transition
temperature for the plastic and making it softer. For plastics such as
PVC, the more plasticizer added, the lower its cold flex temperature
will be. This means that it will be more flexible and its durability
will increase as a result of it. Some plasticizers evaporate and tend to
concentrate in an enclosed space; the “new car smell” is caused mostly
by plasticizers evaporating from the car interior.</div>
<div style="padding-left: 60px;">
Plasticizers make it possible to achieve
improved compound processing characteristics, while also providing
flexibility in the end-use product… Plasticizers also function as
softeners, extenders, and lubricants, and play a significant role in
rubber manufacturing.</div>

<em>Continued…</em></div>
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
Lipids, or waxes and oils, and resins such
as shellac and wood rosin have been widely used for intact fruits and
vegetables in two distinct forms, laminates and emulsions (Baldwin and
others 1995). Lipid-based edible barriers are known for their low water
vapor permeabilities. Koelsch (1994) found that the water vapor
permeability of a cellulose-based emulsion barrier is dependent on the
lipid moiety used; a minimum permeability can be achieved when stearic
acid is used as the lipid. This is due to the effective barrier formed
by stearic acid through an interlocking network. However, lipid-based
edible films also require a support matrix to reduce brittleness, and
have difficulty adhering to the hydrophilic cut surfaces of fruits and
vegetables (Koelsch 1994; Baldwin and others 1995). Some of the most
common compounds used for support matrices are modified celluloses of
hydroxypropylmethyl, ethyl and methylcellulose, chitosan and whey
protein isolate (WPI; Koelsch 1994).</div>
<div style="padding-left: 60px;">
*** Authors note: Steric acid is also known as <em><strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">tallow</span></strong></em> (<strong>animal and plant fatty acids</strong> used in the production of soap).</div>
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
In general, polysaccharides such as
cellulose, pectin, starch, carrageenan, and chitosan, can adhere to cut
surfaces of produce and effectively allow gas transfer; however, they
are not effective moisture barriers. Due to their CO2 and O2
permeabilities, polysaccharide-based films allow the creation of
desirable modified atmospheres, an attractive advantage over plastic or
shrink wrap MAP which can be labor intensive, expensive and
environmentally harmful (Baldwin and others 1995). A number of cellulose
derived coatings are available commercially, most taking advantage of
the modified atmosphere effect of the barriers. Pro-long (Courtaulds
Group, London) and Semperfresh (Surface Systems International, Ltd.,
Oxfordshire, U.K.) are examples of water-soluble composite coatings
comprised of the sodium salt of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) and
sucrose fatty acid ester emulsifiers (Baldwin and others 1995). Their
properties are discussed in Table VI-6. A newer product called
“Snow-White,” based on sucrose esters of fatty acids, has also been used
to combat oxidative browning in the potato industry. Nature-Seal is a
polysaccharide-based surface treatment that uses cellulose derivatives
as film formers, but unlike Semperfresh and Pro-long, does not contain
sucrose fatty acid esters. Nature-Seal is a browning inhibitor that is
applied as a dip or spray and has been shown to delay ripening of whole
fruits and vegetables, and to retard discoloration of peeled carrots and
cut mushrooms.</div>
<div style="padding-left: 60px;">
<strong>***</strong> Authors note:<strong> Sucrose</strong> is the organic compound commonly known as <strong>table sugar</strong> and sometimes called <strong>saccharose</strong>.
This is the kind of processed sugar many health conscious people avoid,
and which diabetics aren’t supposed to consume, though the natural
sugars in fresh fruit is acceptable for diabetics. This is a blatantly
deceiving practice.</div>
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
Finally, proteins such as casein, soy, and
zein, can also adhere to hydrophilic cut produce surfaces and are
easily modified to form films; however, they also allow water diffusion
(Baldwin and others 1995). Unlike lipid-based barriers, protein-based
barriers do not require the addition of a <strong>support matrix</strong>,
since the protein acts as both the water vapor barrier and structural
component of the film (Koelsch 1994). Park and others (1994) reported
the successful application of a corn-zein film to extend the shelf life
of tomatoes. Color change, loss of firmness, and weight loss during
storage were delayed, and shelf life was extended by 6 d in comparison
to untreated tomatoes. <strong>The corn-zein product used in the above study was a commercial product that was brushed onto the tomatoes</strong>
(Regular Grade F4000, INC Biomedicals, Inc.), and consisted of 54 g of
corn-zein, 14 g of glycerine, and 1 g of citric acid dissolved in 260 g
of ethanol. Park and others (1994) did not comment on the use of citric
acid in the film solution; however, others have found that edible films
composed of zein were more successful in preventing the rancidity of
nuts when citric acid was added (Guilbert and others 1996).</div>
<div style="padding-left: 60px;">
*** Author’s note: <strong>Ethanol</strong>, also called <strong>ethyl alcohol</strong>, <strong>pure alcohol</strong>, <strong>grain alcohol</strong>, or <strong>drinking alcohol</strong>,
is a volitile, flammable, colorless liquid. It is a psychoactive drug
and one of the oldest recreational drugs. Best known as the type of
alcohol found in alcoholic beverages, it is also used in thermometers,
as a solvent, and as a fuel. In common usage, it is often referred to
simply as <strong>alcohol</strong> or spirits.</div>
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
In order to obtain an edible film that
incorporates all the best qualities of these four basic materials, as
well as fulfilling the specific conditions for each fruit or vegetable,
manufacturers are now producing films comprised of different
combinations. Some of the advantages and disadvantages of the four basic
edible film barriers, as well as combinations thereof, are listed in
Table VI-5 (discussed below).</div>
Here is Table VI-3:<br />

So let’s take a look at what some of these “food safety” MAP products actually are, as listed in the above table:<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">
-=-</div>
<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Shellac</strong></span>
is a resin secreted by the female lac bug, on trees in the forests of
India and Thailand. It is processed and sold as dry flakes which are
dissolved in ethyl alcohol to make liquid shellac, which is used as a
brush-on colorant, food glaze and wood finish. Shellac functions as a
tough natural primer, sanding sealant, tannin-blocker, odour-blocker,
stain, and high-gloss varnish. Shellac was once used in electrical
applications as it possesses good insulation qualities and it seals out
moisture. Phonograph (gramaphone) records were also made of it during
the pre-1950s, 78-rpm recording era.<br />
Shellac is one of the few historically appropriate finishes
(including casein paint, spar varnishes, boiled linseed oil and lacquer)
for early 20th-century hardwood floors, and wooden wall and ceiling
paneling.<br />
From the time it replaced oil and wax finishes in the 19th century,
shellac was one of the dominant wood finishes in the western world until
it was replaced by nitrocellulose lacquer in the 1920s and 1930s.<br />

<div style="text-align: center;">
-=-</div>
<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Morpholine</strong></span>
is a common additive, in parts per million concentrations, for pH
adjustment in both fossil fuel and nuclear power plant steam systems.
Morpholine is used because its volatility is about the same as water,
so once it is added to the water, its concentration becomes distributed
rather evenly in both the water and steam phases. Its pH adjusting
qualities then become distributed throughout the steam plant to provide
corrosion protection. Morpholine is often used in conjunction with low
concentrations of hydrazine or ammonia to provide a comprehensive
all-volatile treatment chemistry for corrosion protection for the steam
systems of such plants. Morpholine decomposes reasonably slowly in the
absence of oxygen at the high temperatures and pressures in these steam
systems.<br />
The European Union has forbidden the use of Morpholine in fruit coating.<br />
Morpholine is widely used in the USA, Canada, Australia and other
parts of the world as a food additive for use as a component or coating
for fruits and vegetables. However, the use of Morpholine is prohibited
in the European Union, those countries where its use is permitted are
fully aware of these restrictions. Consequently, they have strict
protocols to ensure waxes containing Morpholine are not used for fruit
destined for the UK and the EU.<br />
Morpholine is not permitted in Europe because it is known to be a precursor of N-nitrosomorpholine, a carcinogen.<br />

<div style="text-align: left;">
<strong>Carboxymethyl cellulose</strong> (CMC) or cellulose gum is a synthesized cellulose derivative.</div>
CMC is used in “food science” as a viscosity modifier or thickener,
and to stabilize emulsions in various products including ice cream. As
a food additive, it has E number E466. It is also a constituent of many
non-food products, such as K-Y Jelly, toothpaste, laxatives, diet
pills, water-based paints, detergents, textile sizing and various paper
products. It is used primarily because it has high viscosity, is
non-toxic, and is hypoallergenic. In laundry detergents it is used as a
soil suspension polymer designed to deposit onto cotton and other
cellulosic fabrics creating a negatively charged barrier to soils in the
wash solution. CMC is used as a lubricant in non-volitile eye-drops
(artificial tears). Sometimes it is methyl cellulose (MC) which is used,
but its non-polar methyl groups (-CH3) do not add any solubility or chemical reactivity to the base cellulose.<br />
Following the initial reaction the resultant mixture produces
approximately 60% CMC plus 40% salts (sodium chloride and sodium
glycolate). This product is the so-called Technical CMC which is used in
detergents. A further purification process is used to remove these
salts to produce pure CMC which is used for food, pharmaceutical and
dentifrice (toothpaste) applications. An intermediate “semi-purified”
grade is also produced, typically used in paper applications.<br />
CMC is also used in pharmaceuticals as a thickening agent. CMC is
also used in the oil drilling industry as an ingredient of drilling mud,
where it acts as a viscosity modifier and water retention agent.
Poly-anionic cellulose or PAC is derived from CMC and is also used in
oilfield practice.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;">

<strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">Paraffin</span></strong>
– medicinal liquid paraffin is used to aid bowel movement in persons
suffering chronic constipation; it passes through the gastrointestinal
tract without itself being taken into the body, but it limits the amount
of water removed from the stool. In the food industry, where it may be
called “wax”, it can be used as a lubricant in mechanical mixing,
applied to baking tins to ensure that loaves are easily released when
cooked and as a coating for fruit or other items requiring a “shiny”
appearance for sale.<br />
It is often used in infrared spectroscopy, as it has a relatively
uncomplicated IR spectrum. When the sample to be tested is made into a
mull (a very thick paste), liquid paraffin is added so it can be spread
on the transparent (to infrared) mounting plates to be tested.<br />
Mineral oil has also seen widespread use in biotechnology for
preventing the evaporation of small volumes of liquid during heating.
Polymerase chain-reaction samples may need to be overlaid with a layer
of mineral oil to prevent evaporation during the high heat (95 °C)
required to denature DNA.<br />
Paraffin wax as a food grade substance is used in:<br />
<ul>
<li>Shiny coating used in candy-making; although edible, it is
non-digestible, passing right through the body without being broken down</li>
<li>Coating for many kinds of hard cheese, like Edam cheese</li>
<li>Sealant for jars, cans, and bottles</li>
<li>Chewing gum additive</li>
</ul>

<strong>N(6)-Carboxymethyllysine</strong> (CML), also known as
N(epsilon)-(carboxymethyl)lysine, is an advanced glycation endproduct
(AGE). CML has been the most used marker for AGEs in food analysis.<br />
An <strong>advanced glycation end-product</strong> (<strong>AGE</strong>)
is the result of a chain of chemical reactions after an initial
glycation reaction. Side products generated in intermediate steps may be
oxidizing agents (such as hydrogen peroxide), or not (such as beta
amyloid proteins). “Glycosylation” is sometimes used for “glycation” in
the literature, usually as ‘non-enzymatic glycosylation.’<br />
AGEs may be formed external to the body (exogenously) by heating
(e.g., cooking);or inside the body (endogenously) through normal
metabolism and aging. Under certain pathologic conditions (e.g.,
oxidative stress due to hyperglycemia in patients with diabetes), AGE
formation can be increased beyond normal levels. AGEs are now known to
play a role as proinflammatory mediators in gestational diabetes as
well.<br />
The formation and accumulation of advanced glycation endproducts
(AGEs) has been implicated in the progression of age-related diseases.
AGEs have been implicated in Alzheimer’s Disease,cardiovascular
disease,and stroke.The mechanism by which AGEs induce damage is through a
process called cross-linking that causes intracellular damage and
apoptosis.They form photosensitizers in the crystalline lens, which has
implications for cataract development.Reduced muscle function is also
associated with AGEs.<br />
AGEs may be less, or more, reactive than the initial sugars they were
formed from. They are absorbed by the body during digestion with about
30% efficiency. Many cells in the body (for example, endothelial cells,
smooth muscle, and cells of the immune system)from tissue such as lung,
liver, kidney, and peripheral blood bear the Receptor for Advanced
Glycation End-products (RAGE) that, when binding AGEs, contributes to
age- and diabetes-related chronic inflammatory diseases such
atherosclerosis, asthma, arthritis, myocardial infarction, nephropathy,
retinopathy, periodontis, and neuropathy.. There may be some chemicals,
such as aminoguanidine, that limit the formation of AGEs by reacting
with 3-deoxyglucosone<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/3-deoxyglucosone" title="3-deoxyglucosone">.</a><br />
The total state of oxidative and peroxidative stress on the healthy
body, and the accumulation of AGE-related damage is proportional to the
dietary intake of exogenous (preformed) AGEs, the consumption of sugars
with a propensity towards glycation such as fructose and galactose. (So
naturally, this AGE is used to coat fructose engorged fruit!!! Real
safe…)<br />
<br />
AGEs affect nearly every type of cell and molecule in the body, and
are thought to be one factor in aging and some age-related chronic
diseases.They are also believed to play a causative role in the vascular
complications of diabetes mellitus.<br />
They have a range of pathological effects, including increasing
vascular permeability, inhibition of vascular dilation by interfering
with nitric oxide, oxidising LDL, binding cells including macrophage,
endothelial, and mesangial cells to induce the secretion of a variety of
cytokines and enhancing oxidative stress.<br />

<span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Gelatin</strong></span> (or <strong>gelatine</strong>)
is a translucent, colorless, brittle (when dry), flavorless solid
substance, derived from the collagen inside animals’ skin and bones. It
is commonly used as a gelling agent in food, pharmaceuticals,
photography, and cosmetic manufacturing. Substances containing gelatin
or functioning in a similar way are called <em>gelatinous</em>. Gelatin
is an irreversibly hydrolyzed form of collagen, and is classified as a
foodstuff and therefore carries no E Number. It is found in some gummy
candies as well as other products such as marshmallows, gelatin dessert,
and some low-fat yogurt. Household gelatin comes in the form of sheets,
granules, or powder. Instant types can be added to the food as they
are; others need to be soaked in water beforehand.<br />
Gelatin is a mixture of peptides and proteins produced by partial
hydrolysis of collagen extracted from the boiled crushed bones,
connective tissues, organs and some intestines of animals such as
domesticated cattle, chicken, and pigs. The natural molecular bonds
between individual collagen strands are broken down into a form that
rearranges more easily. Gelatin melts to a liquid when heated and
solidifies when cooled again. Together with water, it forms a semi-solid
colloid gel.<br />
The worldwide production amount of gelatin is about 300,000 tons per
year (roughly 600 million lb).On a commercial scale, gelatin is made
from by-products of the meat and leather industry.Gelatin is derived
mainly from pork skins, pork and cattle bones, or split cattle hides;
contrary to popular belief, horns and hooves are not used.The raw
materials are prepared by different curing, acid, and alkali processes
which are employed to extract the dried collagen hydrolysate. These
processesmay take up to several weeks, and differences in such processes
have great effects on the properties of the final gelatin products.<br />

<em>Authors note… And so the practical
joke of the century from the villainous FDA? Vegetarians and vegans have
all this time been eating organic fruit and veggies covered in pig,
beef, and chicken byproducts. Oh, they must get a kick out of
themselves!</em></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
-=-</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Could this food safety practice actually be causing harm and promoting disease and harmful pathogens?</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Oh, most certainly, according to the FDA report.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
In fact, it after reading this report, I am
very suspicious that the recent outbreaks of food-borne illness caused
from produce may X have ironically been caused by this scientific
process of food safety.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Remember the great spinach scare of the
2006, when almost all prepackaged washed and ready to eat spinich was
recalled due to the strain of E. coli called 0157:H7? Several of those
infected during that outbreak were diagnosed with hemolytic uremic
syndrome, a serious form of kidney failure (remember, the kidneys are
your renal system, a side effect of which is mentioned above).</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
How about the recent February 2011 recall of
broccoli, where a number of broccoli products sold under the Signature
Café, TFarms and Raley’s labels were recalled due to the risk of
Listeria food poisoning?</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
It seems most if not all of these recalls
have to do with “fresh cut” or “washed and ready to eat” produce, as
well as whole produce.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
So let’s take a look at the report to see what this Map film can do for our little pathogenic food poisoning friends…</div>
<h3 style="padding-left: 30px;">
3.2. Pathogenic organisms</h3>
<div style="padding-left: 30px; text-align: left;">
…MAP produce is vulnerable
from a safety standpoint because modified atmospheres may inhibit
organisms that usually warn consumers of spoilage, while the growth of
pathogens may be encouraged. Also, slow growing pathogens may further
increase in numbers due to the extension of shelf life. Currently, there
is concern with the psychrotrophic foodborne pathogens such as <em>L. monocytogenes</em>, Yersinia entercolitica and <em>Aeromonas hydrophila,</em> as well as non-proteolytic <em>C. botulinum</em>, although clearly a number of other microorganisms, especially <em>Salmonella</em> spp., <em>E. coli</em> O157:H7 and <em>Shigella</em> spp., can be potential health risks.</div>
<h3 style="padding-left: 30px;">
3.3. <em>Clostridium botulinum</em> (botulism)</h3>
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
…there is some concern about the use of
MAP with respect to this organism (Zagory 1995). Depending on the
product in a MA package, the level of O2 can decrease rapidly
if the product is temperature abused and product respiration increases,
leaving a highly anaerobic environment ideal for the growth and toxin
production of <em>C. botulinum</em> (Francis and others 1999)…</div>
<div style="padding-left: 30px; text-align: left;">
…in 1987, four circus
performers in Sarasota, FL became ill with symptoms of botulism after
consuming coleslaw prepared from packaged shredded cabbage purchased
three weeks earlier in New Orleans (Solomon and others 1990).
Researchers suspected that the cabbage had been packaged using MAP and
that contaminated cabbage further contaminated the dressing, leading to
the recovery of <em>C. botulinum</em> type A toxin and spores from the dressing.</div>
<div style="padding-left: 30px; text-align: left;">
…Lilly and others (1996)
found that only 0.3% (1 of 337) of sampled shredded cabbage obtained
from retail suppliers in the United States contained <em>C. botulinum</em>. However, the products tested had all been stored at 4°C (39.2°F), below the minimum for growth of proteolytic <em>C. botulinum</em>…</div>
<div style="padding-left: 30px; text-align: left;">
Growth and toxin production of <em>C. botulinum</em> before obvious product spoilage has also been observed on <em>Agaricus bisporus</em>
mushrooms (Sugiyama and Yang 1975) and potato slices (Dignan 1985). As
well, Austin and others (1998) performed challenge studies using both
nonproteolytic and proteolytic strains of <em>C. botulinum</em> on MAP
fresh-cut vegetables and found that samples of butternut squash (5°C
[41°F], 21 d) and onion (25°C [77°F], 6 d) appeared organoleptically
acceptable when toxin was detected. It was also demonstrated that toxin
production by <em>C. botulinum</em> varied with the vegetables tested.
Only nonproteolytic strains growing on butternut squash were capable of
producing neurotoxin at temperatures as low as 5°C (41°F ) in 21 d,
whereas proteolytic strains were able to produce toxin on all vegetables
tested (onion, butternut squash, rutabaga, romaine lettuce, stir-fry
and mixed salad), except coleslaw at 15°C (59°F) and higher (Austin and
others 1998)…</div>
<div style="padding-left: 30px; text-align: left;">
Fresh mushrooms and tomatoes have also been shown to contain spores of <em>Clostridium</em> spp., and therefore <strong>the possibility of botulism associated with these MAP products must not be ignored</strong> (Zagory 1995).</div>
<h3 style="padding-left: 30px;">
3.4. <em>Listeria monocytogenes</em></h3>
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
Recently, concerns about possible pathogen contamination in MAP produce have focused on <em>L. monocytogenes</em>
due to its ability to grow at refrigeration temperatures (NACMCF 1999).
Numerous researchers have reported that this organism can remain
largely unaffected by MAP, while the normal microflora is inhibited
(Amatanidou and others 1999; Francis and O’Bierne 1997, 1998). Thus,
although MAP produce can remain organoleptically acceptable, <em>L. monocytogenes</em>, with a reduced microflora and, especially if low levels of lactic acid bacteria are present, <strong>can grow at low temperatures to potentially harmful levels during the extended storage life of a MAP produce product</strong>…</div>
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
Early studies showed that <em>L. monocytogenes</em> inoculated onto broccoli, asparagus and cauliflower was unaffected by a modified atmosphere of 3% CO2, 18% O2 and 79% N2 for 10 d at 10°C (Berrang and others 1989a). Further studies by Beuchat and Brackett (1990a) clearly demonstrated that<strong> <em>L. monocytogenes</em> increased significantly in number on lettuce stored in a modified atmosphere of 3% O2 and 97% N2</strong>…</div>
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
…Francis and O’Beirne (1997) also reported that the <strong>growth of <em>L. monocytogenes</em> was stimulated by nitrogen flushing</strong> at 8°C (46.4°F). In addition,<strong> increasing CO2 levels from 10 to 20% has been reported to stimulate the growth of <em>L. monocytogenes</em> in a surface model system</strong> (Amanatidou and others 1999).</div>
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
Challenge studies conducted by Farber and others (1998) focused on <strong>commercially available packaged vegetables and salads, as well as vegetables processed to mimic foodservice conditions</strong>. The importance of refrigeration was clearly demonstrated as <em>L. monocytogenes</em>
population levels remained constant on all fresh-cut, processed and
packaged vegetables stored at 4°C (39.2°F), with the exception of
butternut squash and carrots on which the levels increased and
decreased, respectively. At 10°C (50°F), the growth of <em>L. monocytogenes</em>
was supported on all vegetables tested with the exception of chopped
carrots, where the population decreased by 2 log units over 9 d. The
inhibitory properties of raw, uncooked carrots and carrot juice on the
growth of <em>L. monocytogenes</em> have been previously reported (Beuchat and Brackett 1990b). As well, Jacxsens and others (1999) reported a decline in <em>L. monocytogenes</em> on both Brussels sprouts and carrots packaged under a modified atmosphere (2 to 3% O2, 2 to 3% CO2, and 94 to 96% N2) and stored at 7°C (44.6°F)…</div>
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
…and the authors concluded that these conditions might allow <em>L. monocytogenes</em> to reach potentially hazardous levels during the shelf life of the product…</div>
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
<strong>The effects of competition between the indigenous microflora and pathogens on MAP produce have not been studied extensively</strong>.
However, in a recent study, Francis and O’Beirne (1998) used a surface
model agar system to examine the effects of storage atmosphere on <em>L. monocytogenes</em> and the competing microflora (<em>Pseudomonas fluorescens,</em> <em>P. aeruginosa</em>, <em>Enterobacter cloacae</em>, <em>Enterobacter agglomerans</em> and <em>Leuconostoc citreum</em>). <strong><span style="text-decoration: underline;">The findings suggested that MAP conditions (5-20% CO2, balance N2 and 3% O2) might increase the growth rate of <em>L. monocytogenes</em>…</span></strong></div>
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
…Liao and Sapers (1999) also reported that <em>P. fluorescens </em>strains inhibited the growth of <em>L. monocytogenes</em> on endive leaves and <span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>spinach</strong></span>, possibly due to the production of a fluorescent siderophore by the pseudomonads. In general, at 3% O2, a level often reached in commercial MAP packages,<strong> it appeared that growth of the inoculated mixed natural population was decreased, whereas <em>L. monocytogenes</em>proliferated</strong>.</div>
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
Reports of <em>L. monocytogenes</em>
growing on sliced apples in controlled atmosphere (Conway and others
1998) and peeled potatoes in vacuum-packages (Juneja and others 1998) at
abusive temperatures provide further evidence that<strong> this organism may pose a safety risk with respect to certain MAP fruit and vegetable products</strong>,
and reiterates the importance of Good Agriculture Practices (GAP), Good
Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and HACCP for produce post-harvest
handling and processing.</div>
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
More research needs to be done to examine
the influence of different atmospheres, background microflora and
storage temperatures on the survival and growth of <em>L. monocytogenes</em> on MAP fresh-cut produce.</div>
<h3 style="padding-left: 30px;">
3.5. <em>Aeromonas hydrophila</em></h3>
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
<em>Aeromonas</em> spp. can be found on a wide variety of foods, as well as in most aquatic environments and most often causes <strong>gastroenteritis, and occasionally septicemia</strong> (Kirov 1997)… <em>A. hydrophila</em> can grow at refrigeration temperatures, and several studies have shown that growth is not affected by low O2 levels (1.5%) and CO2 levels up to 50% (Francis and others 1999). <strong>A survey of 97 prepared salads found <em>A. hydrophila</em> to be present in 21.6% of them</strong>,
significantly lower than in meat products tested (Fricker and Tompsett
1989). Hudson and De Lacy (1991) also did a small survey of 30 salads
and found <em>A. hydrophila</em> in only one salad package not
containing mayonnaise. They surmised that the mayonnaise lowered the pH
of the food, thereby inhibiting the growth of or inactivating the
aeromonads present…</div>
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
Berrang and others (1989b) determined that<strong>
although at both 4°C (39.2°F) and 15°C (59°F), the shelf life of
broccoli, asparagus and cauliflower was prolonged by MAP (that is,
11-18% O2, 3-10% CO2, 97% N2), it did not negatively affect the growth of resident or inoculated <em>A. hydrophila</em>.</strong>
Interestingly, the organism was detected on most lots obtained from the
commercial producer. Therefore, for storage periods of 8-21 d,
depending on the product, <em>A. hydrophila</em> increased from roughly 104 to 108 or 109 CFU/g, and<strong> product that appeared suitable for consumption was heavily contaminated with the pathogen.</strong> As with <em>L. monocytogenes</em>, the CO2 levels that were inhibitory to <em>A. hydrophila</em> (that is, >50%) also damaged the product (Bennik and others 1995)…</div>
<h3 style="padding-left: 30px;">
3.6. Other pathogens of concern with respect to MAP produce</h3>
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
Organisms such as <em>Salmonella</em>, <em>Shigella</em>, <em>E. coli</em>,
and various enteric viruses, such as hepatitis A, have been implicated
in produce outbreaks, and, therefore, there is concern about their
behavior under modified atmosphere conditions (Zagory 1995; Amanatidou
and others 1999).<strong> A 1986 outbreak of shigellosis was traced back to commercially distributed MAP shredded lettuce</strong>;
347 people were affected in two west Texas counties (Davis and others
1988). Fernandez-Escartin and others (1989) tested the ability of three
strains of <em>Shigella</em> to grow on the surface of fresh-cut papaya,
jicama, and watermelon and reported that populations increased
significantly when the inoculated product was left at room temperature
for 4-6 h. <em>Shigella</em> is not part of the normal flora associated
with produce, but can be passed on as contaminants by infected food
handlers and contaminated manure and irrigation water.</div>
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
<strong>More recently, an outbreak of <em>Salmonella</em> Newport was reported in the U.K., associated with the consumption of ready-to-eat salad vegetables</strong> (PHLS 2001). <strong>To
date, nine human cases have been identified with the isolated strain
from the implicated salad vegetables having an identical PFGE pattern to
three of the human isolates.</strong></div>
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
<strong><em>Salmonella</em> Typhimurium and <em>L. monocytogenes</em> actually had an increased growth rate at these concentrations</strong>; growth increased from 0.011 and 0.031µ/h to 0.023 and 0.041 µ/h for S. Typhimurium and <em>L. monocytogenes</em>, respectively. <strong>In general, <em>E. coli</em> O157:H7, S. Hadar and S. Typhimurium were only inhibited by CO2 levels that caused damage and spoilage to the produce</strong> (Piagentini and others 1997; Amanatidou and others 1999; Francis and others 1999). A modified atmosphere of 3% O2 and 97% N2 also had no significant effect on <em>E. coli</em>
O157:H7 inoculated onto shredded lettuce, sliced cucumber, and shredded
carrot and incubated at 12 and 21°C (21.6 and 69.8°F) (Abdul-Raouf and
others 1993). At 5°C (41°F), populations of viable <em>E. coli</em>
O157:H7 declined on stored vegetables; however, at 12 and 21°C (53.6 and
69.8°F), populations increased, demonstrating the importance of
refrigeration temperatures in maintaining product safety. Richert and
others (2000) who, although not studying MAP, reported that <em>E. coli</em>
O157:H7 could survive on produce (broccoli, cucumbers and green
peppers) stored at 4°C (39.2°F) and proliferate rapidly when stored at
15°C (59°F). In 1993, there were two foodborne outbreaks of
enterotoxigenic <em>E. coli</em> (ETEC) linked to carrots in a tabouleh
salad served in New Hampshire and to an airline salad on a flight from
North Carolina to Rhode Island (CDC 1994). Although these carrots were
of U.S. origin, ETEC is a common cause of diarrheal illness in Mexico
and developing countries that import fresh product to North America. <strong>Research on the behavior of this pathogen on fresh and fresh-cut product, both under MAP and without MAP, seems warranted…</strong></div>
<div style="padding-left: 30px;">
…A more recent study, investigating the survival of <em>C. jejuni</em> on MAP fresh-cut cilantro and lettuce, found that <strong>refrigeration temperatures in combination with a modified atmosphere of 2% O</strong>2<strong>, 18% CO2 and 80% N2 can be favorable for bacteria</strong> (Tran and others 2000). Due to the microaerophilic nature of <em>Campylobacter</em> spp., which require 5% O2, 10% CO2 and 85% N2 for optimal growth, the investigators suspected that a low O2 modified atmosphere may provide an environment conducive to survival of the pathogen…</div>

This list of ingredients includes substances
that many people have high allergic reactions to, including wheat
(gluten) and milk (caseinate), and ones that are just downright bad for
your health, including Chlorine, corn byproducts, and other animal fatty
acid byproducts.</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">

<div style="text-align: left;">
So now at least you know. That shiny,
healthy looking high-pro glow that is emanating from your fresh
store-bought produce is more than likely this MAP – a film consisting of
any number of inorganic, unhealthy compounds, including pork rinds and
chicken bones!</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
The most important factor here is to
understand that in an attempt prolong shelf life and reduce natural
spoilage of our produce, these film covers are also creating an
environment for bad pathogens to grow. And since the produce shows no
signs of spoilage or contamination, the consumer may never know what is
actually thriving thanks to that prolonged life allowed by modern, yet
impossibly dangerous and deceiving food science.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
And so once again, this is your Federal Food and Drug Administration at work.</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
When will we learn that the FDA is in the
business of making its government owned corporations lives easier, by
deregulating the rules that govern the food and drug industries and by
allowing just about anything to be called “edible” and “food”, while
simultaneously destroying the lives of anyone who tries to heal or cure
disease without the FDA’s permission… and stealing their patents to
boot? And now arresting farmers who transport raw milk across state
borders as if milk is a illicit drug?</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
What is it going to take to make you stand up to this beast… this tyrant?</div>
<div style="text-align: left;">
Less fluoride, perhaps…</div>

If it fails to constrain itself, we should not hesitate in launching nuclear war because there is no solution except this.”<br /><br />Potential nuclear war over water rights – such sentiments ought to light up switchboards from New Delhi to Washington.<br /><br />Needless to say, the fact that both India and Pakistan are nuclear powers is cause for concern.<br /><br />Nawa-e Waqt is a privately owned, widely read conservative Pakistani Islamic daily with a circulation around 125,000 and is heavily critical of the U.S. and India. To put Nawa-e Waqt’s circulation in context, consider that the conservative Washington Times has a current estimated circulation of 50,000.<br /><br />So, what has the editorial board of the Nawa-e Waqt so excited?<br /><br />Indian dam building in the disputed area of Kashmir. Compared with much of South Asia, Kashmir has many rivers and relatively few people.<br /><br />Bashir Ahmad, a geologist in Srinagar, Kashmir commented grimly about the Indians’ future intentions, “They will switch the Indus off to make Pakistan solely dependent on India. It’s going to be a water bomb.” A more dispassionate report by America’s Senate last February offered still a similar assessment, noting, “The cumulative effect of (the dam) projects could give India the ability to store enough water to limit the supply to Pakistan at crucial moments in the growing season” before concluding that dams are a source of “significant bilateral tension.”<br /><br />How many dams and hydroelectric reports? The Senate report counted 33 hydroelectric projects in the border area, a number that Pakistani analysts nearly double to 60, which according to the state’s chief minister, Omar Abdullah, will add an extra 3,000 megawatts to the national power grid by 2019.<br /><br />Pakistan’s vulnerability is underwritten by the fact that, like Egypt it exists around a single great river, although the Indus is nearly twice the Nile’s size when it reaches the sea. The Indus provides water to over 80 percent of Pakistan’s 54 million acres of irrigated land, via a canal system largely built by the British.<br /><br />A further potential diplomatic tar-pit is that Afghanistan plans to build 12 dams on the Kabul river with a combined storage capacity of 4.7 million acre-feet, which Pakistan frets will further diminish the Indus water supply, quite aside from the fact that Indian support for these dams will increase India's hydro-influence in the region.<br /><br />The Kabul River Basin (KRB) is the most important river basin in Afghanistan and contains half the country's urban population, including the city of Kabul. While New Delhi has not directly confirmed its support for the facilities, the proposed hydroelectric projects represent one of India’s largest assistance interests, with $1.3 billion invested in infrastructure projects.<br /><br />So, is there any way out before the missiles fly?<br /><br />The 1960 Indus Water Treaty (IWT) between India and Pakistan can not only assist in easing tension, but provide a template for developing an Afghan-Pakistani agreement on the Kabul river. The treaty, which has survived three wars, explicitly outlines how both India and Pakistan can use cross-border rivers and deals in particular with the tributaries flowing from Kashmir to form the Indus.<br /> <br />The IWT is considered one of the world's most successful trans-boundary water treaties, as it addresses specific water allocation issues and provides unique design requirements for run-of-the-river dams, which ensure the steady flow of water and guarantee power generation through hydro-electricity. The IWT also provides a mechanism for consultation and arbitration should questions, disagreements, or disputes arise.<br /><br />All foreign governments interested in avoiding further military conflict in South Asia should impress upon both New Delhi and Islamabad the ongoing value of their 51 year-old water agreement and urge them to resolve their conflicts within its framework.<br /><br />By. And in that status he merges the material modes of nature [ignorance and passion] in this point of neutralization and thus reaches egoism in goodness. After this, all egoism is merged in the mahat-tattva, and he comes to the point of pure self-realization.<br /><br />PURPORT<br /><br />Pure self-realization, as we have several times discussed, is the pure consciousness of admitting oneself to be the eternal servitor of the Lord. Thus one is reinstated in his original position of transcendental loving service to the Lord, as will be clearly explained in the following verse. This stage of rendering transcendental loving service to the Lord without any hopes of emolument from the Lord, or any other way, can be attained when the material senses are purified and the original pure state of the senses is revived. It is suggested herein that the process of purifying the senses is by the yogic way, namely the gross senses are merged in the mode of ignorance, and the subtle senses are merged in the mode of passion. The mind belongs to the mode of goodness and therefore is called devamaya, or godly. perfect purification of the mind is made possible when one is fixed in the conviction of being the eternal servitor of the Lord. Therefore simple attainment of goodness is also a material mode; one has to surpass this stage of material goodness and reach the point of purified goodness, or vasudeva-sattva. This vasudeva-sattva helps one to enter into the kingdom of God.<br /><br />We may also remember in this connection that the process of gradual emancipation by the devotees in the manner mentioned above, although authoritative, is not viable in the present age because of people's being primarily unaware of yoga practice. The so-called yoga practice by the professional protagonists may be physiologically beneficial, but such small successes cannot help one in the attainment of spiritual emancipation as mentioned herein. Five thousand years ago, when the social status of human society was in perfect Vedic order, the yoga process mentioned herein was a common affair for everyone because everyone, and especially the brāhmaṇa and kṣatriya, was trained in the transcendental art under the care of the spiritual master far away from home, in the status of brahmacarya. Modern man, however, is incompetent to understand it perfectly.<br /><br />Lord Śrī Caitanya, therefore, made it easier for the prospective devotee of the present age in the following specific manner. Ultimately there is no difference in the result. The first and foremost point is that one must understand the prime importance of bhakti-yoga. The living beings in different species of life are undergoing different terms of encagement according to their fruitive actions and reactions. But in the execution of different activities, one who secures some resources in bhakti-yoga can understand the importance of service to the Lord through the causeless mercy of the Lord, as well as that of the spiritual master. A sincere soul is helped by the Lord through meeting a bona fide spiritual master, the representative of the Lord. By the instruction of such a spiritual master, one gets the seed of bhakti-yoga. Lord Śrī Caitanya Mahāprabhu recommends that the devotee sow the seed of bhakti-yoga in his heart and nurture it by the watering of hearing and chanting the holy name, fame, etc., of the Lord. The simple process of offenselessly chanting and hearing the holy name of the Lord will gradually promote one very soon to the stage of emancipation. There are three stages in chanting the holy name of the Lord. The first stage is the offensive chanting of the holy name, and the second is the reflective stage of chanting the holy name. The third stage is the offenseless chanting of the holy name of the Lord. In the second stage only, the stage of reflection, between the offensive and offenseless stages, one automatically attains the stage of emancipation. And in the offenseless stage, one actually enters into the kingdom of God, although physically he may apparently be within the material world. To attain the offenseless stage, one must be on guard in the following manner.<br /><br />When we speak of hearing and chanting, it means that not only should one chant and hear of the holy name of the Lord as Rāma, Kṛṣṇa (or systematically the sixteen names Hare Kṛṣṇa, Hare Kṛṣṇa, Kṛṣṇa Kṛṣṇa, Hare Hare/ Hare Rāma, Hare Rāma, Rāma Rāma, Hare Hare), but one should also read and hear the Bhagavad-gītā and Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam in the association of devotees. The primary practice of bhakti-yoga will cause the seed already sowed in heart to sprout, and by a regular watering process, as mentioned above, the bhakti-yoga creeper will begin to grow. By systematic nurturing, the creeper will grow to such an extent that it will penetrate the coverings of the universe, as we have heard in the previous verses, reach the effulgent sky, the brahmajyoti, and go farther and farther and reach the spiritual sky, where there are innumerable spiritual planets called Vaikuṇṭhalokas. Above all of them is Kṛṣṇaloka, or Goloka Vṛndāvana, wherein the growing creeper enters and takes repose at the lotus feet of Lord Śrī Kṛṣṇa, the original Personality of Godhead. When one reaches the lotus feet of Lord Kṛṣṇa at Goloka Vṛndāvana, the watering process of hearing and reading, as also chanting of the holy name in the pure devotional stage, fructifies, and the fruits grown there in the form of love of God are tangibly tasted by the devotee, even though he is here in this material world. The ripe fruits of love of God are relished only by the devotees constantly engaged in the watering process as described above. But the working devotee must always be mindful so that the creeper which has so grown will not be cut off. Therefore he should be mindful of the following considerations:<br /><br />(1) Offense by one at the feet of a pure devotee may be likened to the mad elephant who devastates a very good garden if it enters.<br /><br />(2) One must be very careful to guard himself against such offenses at the feet of pure devotees, just as one protects a creeper by all-around fencing.<br /><br />(3) It so happens that by the watering process some weeds are also grown, and unless such weeds are uprooted, the nurturing of the main creeper, or the creeper of bhakti-yoga, may be hampered.<br /><br />(4) Actually these weeds are material enjoyment, merging of the self in the Absolute without separate individuality, and many other desires in the field of religion, economic development, sense enjoyment and emancipation.<br /><br />(5) There are many other weeds, like disobedience to the tenets of the revered scriptures, unnecessary engagements, killing animals, and hankering after material gain, prestige and adoration.<br /><br />(6) If sufficient care is not taken, then the watering process may only help to breed the weeds, stunting the healthy growth of the main creeper and resulting in no fructification of the ultimate requirement: love of God.<br /><br />(7) The devotee must therefore be very careful to uproot the different weeds in the very beginning. Only then will the healthy growth of the main creeper not be stunted.<br /><br />(8) And by so doing, the devotee is able to relish the fruit of love of God and thus live practically with Lord Kṛṣṇa, even in this life, and be able to see the Lord in every step.<br /><br />The highest perfection of life is to enjoy life constantly in the association of the Lord, and one who can relish this does not aspire after any temporary enjoyment of the material world via other media.The Bhagavat Solutionhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05932601489692776723noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6864438817716536176.post-79108007613980703082011-12-05T14:21:00.000+03:002011-12-05T14:22:22.649+03:00"The Folly Of Our Age"Srimad-Bhagavatam 1.3.25<br />September 30, 1972, Los Angeles<br /><br />Srila A. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada <br /><br /><br />Pradyumna: (leads chanting, etc.)<br /><br />athasau yuga-sandhyayam<br />dasyu-prayesu rajasu<br />janita visnu-yasaso<br />namna kalkir jagat-patih<br /><br />Translation: "Thereafter, at the conjunction of two yugas, the Lord of the creation will take His birth as the Kalki incarnation and become the son of Visnu Yasa. At this time the rulers of the earth will have degenerated into plunderers."<br /><br />Prabhupada: So there are some remarkable points in this verse. Dasyu-prayesu rajasu. Rajasu means government. Raja, king, or government. So monarchy is now abolished practically all over the world. Now it is democratic government. So this so-called democratic government or Communist government, as they are going on, they will become rogues and thieves, dasyu-prayesu. All the rogues, thieves, plunderers, they will capture. Because it is by vote. So dasyu... Just like plunderers, rogues, they on the point of revolver, they take away your money, so they will take vote on the point of revolver. Actually, it is happening. In Korea it so happened, that sometimes the Communists are coming in power, and sometimes the capitalists coming in power, America and Russia. So poor people, as soon as there is Communist government, they are under the influence: "If you don't do this, then you'll be shot." By force. The people do not know what is government generally. They want to live peacefully. They want a secure place. So that is not their business, modern government. Their only business is how to collect tax and divide it amongst the government servants. That's all.<br /><br />So this is the beginning of Kali-yuga. Only we have passed five thousand years, but the duration of Kali-yuga is 432,000's of years. So only we have passed five thousand years. In this way... This is called sandhya, junction. I have already explained that junction means day and night. Day passing, night is coming, that is called junction. Morning passing, noon coming, that is another junction, meridian. So early in the morning and during sunset and in the middle, joining of noon, morning and noon, these are called tri-sandhya. Tri means three. Three kinds of junction. So everyone has got this tri-sandhya of his life. Just like in our life. When we were babies, children, that is the beginning. Say, up to fifteen years, sixteen years, that is one portion, sandhya, junction. Then another junction, youthhood; then another junction, old age. This is the nature's way. There must be three periods of anything material.<br /><br />So this Kali-yuga has already begun. So in the beginning sandhya, junction, Lord Buddha's description is given already. Lord Buddha will cheat the atheist class of men. God is very kind. So sammohaya sura-dvisam [SB 1.3.24]. Those who are atheists, just to bewilder them: "Yes, there is nothing after death, it is all zero, but you worship me," Lord Buddha said. "Yes, sir, we shall worship you." So the only business, God's business is, "This rascal may some way or other worship Me." Because they are rascals. So here Lord Buddha by policy induced them to worship Lord Buddha. Lord Buddha is incarnation of God. Kesava dhrta-buddha-sarira. His philosophy is "No, there is no God, but you worship me." But the policy is to worship God. But they do not know. They are thinking that "We are worshiping somebody, some great soul," but he does not know that he is God, incarnation of God.<br /><br />So similarly, when people will be so much degraded that they will not be able to understand anything about God... That time is coming gradually. Already the time is there. People are not at all interested in God's business. In your Western world all the churches are vacant. Nobody is interested now in church. Especially in Europe, we have seen... In your country also. So people are being degraded, godlessness. Because godless means animal. What is the difference between animal and man? The animal cannot be instructed anything about God. It is not possible for them to understand. But a man, however degraded he may be, if he is trained up, he can understand about God. Just like five years ago, you did not know about Krsna. But because you are being trained up, because you are human being, therefore you are taking to Krsna consciousness. Which was unknown to you five years ago, now you are taking it to very seriously. Why? Because you are being trained up.<br /><br />Similarly, God consciousness is there, dormant in every living entity. But the perception varies according to the development of body. Just like child. You say something serious, say, about sex life, they do not understand. But the same child will understand sex life when the consciousness is developed. Similarly, in this material world, our consciousness is covered, God consciousness. So there are different species of life. Just like the aquatics in the ocean. There are so many living entities. But if you preach there Krsna consciousness, it is not possible Their number is far greater than human being. Still, they have no capacity. Next development, plants and trees, there also, no sensation. You cut the trees, no protest, because there is no sensation. There is practically consciousness... There is consciousness, very slight. Sir Jagadish Candra Bose has proved that when you cut tree, he feels, and that is recorded in what is called, that machine? So everyone has got consciousness. Living entity means there is consciousness. But they have their consciousness only for eating, sleeping, sex life and defending. There is consciousness amongst the fish. Their consciousness is so strong, two miles away if some big fish is coming, they can understand. Immediately they can take precaution defending. These are all described.<br /><br />So different animals in different species of life, they have got one type of consciousness very strong. Just like you can see the vultures. It is a low-graded animal. But it goes four miles above the earth and it can see where is a dead body. You cannot do that. You cannot see even twenty yards after. But the animal, another animal, the vulture, he can see... From four miles away he can find out where there is a dead body. So this consciousness of eating, sleeping, mating and defending, that is common. In one animal or, it is very strong. In another man, animal, it is not so strong. But this consciousness is there. But this God consciousness is not there except in human being.<br /><br />So the human society is becoming so degraded that they are trying to forget God. That is their advancement of civilization. The more you deny existence of God and become a so-called rascal scientist, then you are advanced. This is the position. So this position will degrade so much after, say, 400,000's of years, gradually degrading, that at time, Krsna will come in His incarnation as Kalki. At that time the Kalki's business will be simply to kill. That's all. No more. No more preaching of Krsna consciousness. Simply kill them. That is Kalki avatara. That Kalki avatara is given the father's name. This is called sastra. This is called scripture. Four hundred thousand's after, 400,000's of years after, Kalki will come. Now, His father's name is given there. Just like Lord Buddha's mother's name is there. So you cannot imitate that "I am Kalki avatara." You have to give evidence, what is your father's name. Just see. This is called sastra. Any rascal comes, "Oh, I am Krsna. I am this avatara and that avatara," but where is the evidence from the sastra? We cannot accept. Just like any gentleman comes, we want to see the credential. Just like in politics, when some ambassador comes to a new country, then he has to officially present his credential so that he will be accepted that "This gentleman is representative of such and such country." That is nice. Unless you give credentials, identity, how I can accept you? So... But people have become rascal. Anyone comes, he says that "I am incarnation of God," because the people are rascals, they accept another rascal. But if you follow the sastras and scriptures, then you will find all the avataras, their credentials are there -- What is the father's name, what is the name of the place he takes birth or appears, what is his business. So... What is the time. Everything is given there. So why should you be misled?<br /><br />So we accept incarnation of God when all the descriptions are corroborated in terms of the authorized sastra. Otherwise we reject. That is our business. So in this verse... Why we accept Vedic scripture as solid truth? Because there is no mistake. Otherwise, how it is predicting that yuga-sandhyayam, "In the last conjunction of the yugas, there will appear the Lord"? Kalkir namna, namna kalkih. "His name will be Kalki. But He is not ordinary person." Namna kalkir jagat-patih. "He is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. He is not ordinary man. And His father's name is..." Janita visnu-yasasah. "His father's name will be Visnu Yasa." The Yasa title are there in India still. One Mr. Yasi (Joshi) corresponds with us. So the Josha, or Joshi, this title is already there. So they are brahmanas. Here, all the descriptions are not there, but in other place, all the descriptions are there. Not only his father's name, name, His village or the place, Sambhal. There is still a place Sambhalpur in India. So everything is there. We should not be misled that "Here is another avatara, here is another avatara, here is... So many avataras." No. So this is called sastra: what will happen after 400,000's of years, that is mentioned. Future. Just like Lord Buddha's name was there. Bhavisyati yuga-sandhyayam. Bhavisyati. Bhavisyati means "He will come." He was not visible. This is sastra. Sastra means tri-kala-jna. The writer of sastra should be a full cognizant of past, present, and future. That is called unmistakable. Past, present, and future. Krsna says in the Bhagavad-gita that "I know past, present, and future."<br /><br />So that is God or God's scripture. Past, present, and future. This Bhagavata was written by God Himself, Vyasadeva. Vyasadeva is incarnation of Krsna. That we have described, eleventh or some avatara. So the Kalki will appear. The sastra is giving indication that after such and such year. And another point is this dasyu-prayesu rajasu. The..., more and more the government will be just like thieves and rogues. We are already experiencing. Now a new law has been passed in India that nobody can keep property more than five to seven lakhs of rupees. So people's incentive to earn money is now being cut down. Formerly it was freedom that you can earn your money as much as you like. Now if you think that "I will earn money, hundreds and thousands of money," but what is the use? The government will take away. That means you will be lazy. The economic development will be checked. Because one who works so hard for economic development because he is under the inspiration that "The more I earn, I will be able to enjoy more." But when this impression is given that "More we earn, it will be taken by government, and I will not be able to enjoy it," naturally he will not work.<br /><br />So there are so many difficulties. But these difficulties will increase. It will not decrease. They are making so many plans to minimize the difficulties. But actually, because they are fools and rogues, they cannot make anything improvement. They have become involved in more difficulties. That Narottama dasa Thakura has sung, sat-sanga chadi' kainu asate vilasa te-karane lagila ye karma-bandha-phansa. We do not consult the sastra or the unmistakable way of improvement. We manufacture our own concoction. And therefore we are becoming more and more entangled. We do not take right direction. That is our folly in this age. We do not accept authority. We want to become authority ourself: "I am authority." Everyone wants to become authority. And that is being supported by so-called swamis, "Yes, you can manufacture your own religion."<br /><br />But that is not the process. You cannot manufacture your own religion. Religion is given by God. Religion means the law of God. That's all. So how you can manufacture your law? That is not possible. Even if you do manufacture, what is the benefit? It will not be accepted. It will not work. Suppose if you manufacture some law at home, will it be accepted by the public? No. Nobody will accept. So similarly, this Kali-yuga is so dangerous that gradually we are becoming involved in more difficulties. That is the way of Kali-yuga. The symptom of Kali-yuga is disagreement, fight, quarrel. Kali means this quarreling, fighting, unnecessarily fighting. Just like recently in India we have seen. Formerly there was Hindu-Muslim riot, sporadic riot in some village. Say, some fifty men this side, some fifty men that side, they fought, say, for two hours, and it is finished. Again they are friendly. Now, since India has become independent, the Muslims have become Pakistan and the other part... They are not all Hindus. Suppose Hindus, they have become Hindustan. They organizedly fight. Now recently, last year, they fought and spent millions of dollars unnecessarily. This is going on. This is called Kali-yuga. Unnecessarily they will disagree, unnecessarily they will fight and spoil energy, spoil money. This is called Kali-yuga. The brain is so crazy that they do not consider that "Why you are fighting? Why you are spending money?"<br /><br />Just like in your country and Russia, they are spending millions of dollars for one crazy thing, going to the moon planet. Just see. Simply wasting time and money. That's a fact. Three or four years ago, some press representative asked me, "What is your opinion," in, I think, San Francisco, "about this moon expedition?" So I asked the reporter, "Shall I flatter you or shall I tell the truth?" So he said, "Tell the truth." "Simply wasting time and money, that's all." This is the truth. Now I think they have realized, and your senate is denying any money for moon expedition. Is it not? Somebody was telling me.<br /><br />So anyway, actually, human life is meant for some other purpose -- God realization. Because this is not possible in other lower animals. And we get this chance by evolutionary process. We come to this human form of life, civilized form of life. Now we should know what is God, who is the supreme controller, who is the supreme source of everything. Janmady asya yatah [SB 1.1.1]. Athato brahma jijnasa. This is the life for inquiring about Brahman, the Supreme, the great. But we are neglectful. This is called Kali-yuga. And we are so much degraded... Gradually, we are becoming degraded. So 427,000's of years, if we again come and go, come and go... Because after... Dehantara-praptih, tatha dehantara-praptih. If you continue transmigration from one body to another, then you will have to meet that age. But before meeting that age, try to understand Krsna. This is our movement. Then, in this life in this very life, after giving up this body, you haven't got to come here again. Tyaktva deham punar janma naiti [Bg. 4.9]. No more coming to this rascal world. Go back to home, back to Godhead.<br /><br />Thank you very much. (end)<br /> <br />>>> Ref. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada <br /><br />Pradyumna: (leads chanting, etc.)<br /><br />sa vai pumsam paro dharmo<br />yato bhaktir adhoksaje<br />ahaituky apratihata<br />yayatma suprasidati<br /> [SB 1.2.6]<br /><br />Translation (not on tape) "The supreme occupation [dharma] for all humanity is that by which men can attain to loving devotional service unto the transcendent Lord. Such devotional service must be unmotivated and uninterrupted to completely satisfy the self."<br /><br />Prabhupada: This is a speech of Suta Gosvami in Naimisaranya. Formerly, great sages used to assemble in the forest of Naimisaranya. Those who are Indians, they will know Naimisaranya. There is a station, Nimsara, still. And it is near Lucknow. Still it is very nice place. So there was a great meeting of saintly persons. As nowadays ordinary persons meet together to find out the ways and means for people's prosperity, formerly the great saintly persons, sages, brahmanas, they used to meet, and they used to give formula to the people, to the king, that "You follow this. You will be happy." This was the system, brahmana, ksatriya, vaisya, sudra. So the brahmanas will give the direction, and the ksatriya king would execute it. And the vaisyas will produce foodgrains. Vaisya-karma svabhava-jam. Krsi-go-raksya-vanijyam vaisya-karma svabhava-jam [Bg. 18.44]. For vaisyas, three work, three kinds of occupation: first of all, agriculture, produce food, and then, give protection to the cows. Because cow is important animal, cow protection is very necessary. So krsi-go-raksya-vanijyam [Bg. 18.44]. And where there is scarcity of food, transport food there, make business. These three things for the vaisyas.<br /><br />So there was meeting. So in the meeting... That meeting was held after the departure of Krsna. So the question was that "After departure of Krsna, who has taken charge of this world for proper discharge of religious principles?" So the reply was that "Krsna has left this world, but here is the Srimad-Bhagavatam. That will give you direction." Srimad-Bhagavatam is the sound representation of Krsna. As Bhagavad-gita is the sound produced, vibrated by Krsna personally, similarly Srimad-Bhagavatam is written by Vyasadeva under the direction of his spiritual master, Narada, about Krsna. Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu has advised to preach the message of Krsna. That is His cult.<br /><br />yare dekha tare kaha ‘krsna'-upadesa<br />amara ajnaya guru hana tara' ei desa<br /> [Cc. Madhya 7.128]<br /><br />This is the mission of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. And He wanted all the Indians to help this movement.<br /><br />bharata-bhumite haila manusya-janma yara<br />janma sarthaka kari' kara para-upakara<br /> [Cc. Adi 9.41]<br /><br />This is the mission of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. He has advised every Indian... Bharata-bhumite haila manusya-janma. Every human being born in India, they should take up this cult of Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. They can take it. Because by birth they have got the right because this Bhagavatam is produced in India, Bhagavad-gita is produced in India. That is the glory of India. So the sons of India, those who are Indians, those who are proud of becoming Indian, they should take up this mission. Janma sarthaka kari'. First of all make your life successful by understanding what is Bhagavad-gita and what is Srimad-Bhagavatam. Janma sarthaka. If you are yourself unsuccessful in the mission of your life, you cannot preach anything. Therefore Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu says janma sarthaka kari': "After making your life successful." That means by understanding the value of Srimad-Bhagavatam and Bhagavad-gita, you preach this knowledge all over the world.<br /><br />Because such knowledge is wanting all over the world. The Western countries, they might have advanced in material technology, technical knowledge, but they have no knowledge about the science of God. That is lacking. So the East and West, they should cooperate. They cooperate. You have got some knowledge; I take advantage of it. I have got some knowledge; you take advantage of it. This is cooperation. This is cooperation. So especially now, people all over the world, they are trying to imitate the Western type of civilization. That is not bad. Do it. But you also do something so that Westerners may also take your knowledge. That is cooperation. So why you are silent in that point? Therefore, because Indians or Indian government has failed to do this duty, India is known as beggar country all over the world. I am traveling. "Oh, you are from India? It is very poverty-stricken country." This is the designation of India. Actually it is so. In comparison to Western country, India is very poor, very poor.<br /><br />So there is no need of remaining poor. You can make your economic development. This is required. Dharmartha-kama-moksanam. Human life means four things he must develop. First thing is dharma. He must know what is religion. Every human being -- not Indians or Europeans or Americans. That is the prime duty of every human being. Without following the religious principles, then he is not human even. Dharmena hinah pasubhih samanah. If the human society... It doesn't matter what kind of religion you follow. It doesn't matter. But you must follow. (aside:) Sit down properly. Don't go out now and come. They, that is the duty, dharma. Dharmena hinah. Human civilization begins when there is religious conception of life. Therefore all over the world -- it doesn't matter whether Europe, America or India or China, Japan -- there is some kind of religion. There is some kind of religion -- either Hindu religion or Muslim religion or Christian religion, Buddhist religion. These are the prime religions of the world.<br /><br />Now, here in the Srimad-Bhagavatam, they are discussing about religion. Sa vai pumsam paro dharmah.<br /><br />sa vai pumsam paro dharmo<br />yato bhaktir adhoksaje<br />ahaituky apratihata<br />yayatma suprasidati<br /> [SB 1.2.6]<br /><br />Everyone wants to be happy. Atma. Atma means body, atma means mind. Atma means atma, soul, also. So somebody is trying to be happy bodily. That is also atma. But that is very temporary. And somebody is wanting the peace and prosperity or tranquillity of the mind. That is also atmarama. Atmarama means everyone is wanting to remain happy and peaceful in his atma. So those who are gross, they are trying to be happy bodily. They are called karmis. And those who are little advanced, they are trying to be happy mentally. They are called jnanis. Karmis, jnanis. And those who are trying to be happy spiritually, they are called yogis. So yogis, there are different kinds of yogis. But the first-class yogi is bhakti-yogi. Bhakti-yoga. Krsna says in the Bhagavad-gita,<br /><br />yoginam api sarvesam<br />mad-gatenantar-atmana<br />sraddhavan bhajate yo mam<br />sa me yuktatamo matah<br /> [Bg. 6.47]<br /><br />He is first-class yogi. Who is first-class yogi? Mad-gatenantar-atmana, "who is always thinking of Me." Krsna says, man-mana bhava mad-bhakto mad-yaji mam namaskuru [Bg. 18.65]. This is Krsna's advice in the Bhagavad-gita. Man-mana bhava mad-bhaktah: "Always think of Me." It is not difficult. You think of Krsna. You have got Krsna's form. That is first-class meditation. Krsna says, yoginam api sarvesam mad-gatenantar-atmana [Bg. 6.47]. Thinking of Krsna, antar-atmana, within the core of heart. Sa me yuktatamo matah. He is first-class yogi. So we are teaching that, how to become first-class yogi. "Chant Krsna, Hare Krsna, and hear." Immediately... All Krsna's -- Krsna's form, Krsna's qualities, Krsna's pastimes, Krsna's paraphernalia, Krsna's opulence -- everything will be subject of your thinking. This is called first-class yoga.<br /><br />So here also, what is spoken by Krsna in Bhagavad-gita, that is confirmed in the Srimad-Bhagavatam. Here it is said, sa vai pumsam paro dharmah. Para and apara. Para means superior or transcendental. There are two kinds of prakrtis: para-prakrti, apara-prakrti. That is also described in the Bhagavad-gita. Material, bhumir apo 'nalo vayuh kham mano buddhir eva ca. Material things, earth, water, fire, air, sky, mind, intelligence, ego. Prakrtir me astadha, bhinna prakrtir me astadha. Krsna says, "They are My prakrti. My nature, My energy." Similarly, Krsna says, next verse, apareyam: "This material prakrti is inferior. But beyond this material prakrti, there is a superior prakrti." What is that? Jiva-bhutam maha-baho yayedam dharyate jagat: "That is living entity." So living entity is also prakrti, another energy of Krsna. Just like this material world is one creation, material creation. Similarly, there is spiritual energy also. Krsna has multi-energies. Parasya saktir vividhaiva sruyate. Na tasya karyam... This is Vedic injunction. Na tasya karyam karanam ca vidyate. God has nothing to do with His hands and legs. He is so powerful that He has got so many energies... Just like big man here, he does not do anything with his hands, but he has got so many assistants. As soon as he wants to do something, immediately it is done. If it is possible for ordinary human being, how much energy is in stock of Krsna, and how He can perform everything perfectly. Svabhaviki jnana-bala-kriya ca. Everything comes out nicely. So much energy is there. Inconceivable energy. That is God.<br /><br />So that energy is divided into three. Material energy, spiritual energy and marginal energy. We are marginal energy. We living entities, we belong to the marginal energy, tatastha-sakti. Marginal means we can remain in the material energy or in the spiritual energy. Now, at the present moment, every one of us, we are under the control of the material energy. You can understand it very easily. Just like government. The government, that is one energy working. Similarly, the prison house, that is also another energy working. And the citizens, that is also another, another energy working. But the citizens are marginal. They can remain outside the prison walls and inside the prison walls. Therefore they are called marginal. When you are abiding by the laws of the government, you are free. You are not abiding by the laws of the government, you are within the prison house. So you are at liberty. Either... That is your choice. Government has got university, as well as the criminal department. Government does not canvass, rather government canvasses that "You come to the university. Be educated. Be advanced." But it is our choice, we sometimes go to the prison house. It is not government's fault.<br /><br />Similarly, those who have come to this material world, they are all supposed to be criminals, disobedient to the laws of God. Therefore there is dharma, to teach people that "You take to religious principle, gradually become purified, and come back again to the spiritual world. That is your real abode." Here it is foreign. Here it is foreign, and you are under so many tribulations. Just like if you are in the prison house, there you cannot expect any comfort of life. That is not possible. It is meant for inflicting miseries upon you so that you can understand that you are criminal, you should not do like this and come here again. That is the process going on. Similarly, here also in this material world, we are always under troublesome condition. Especially in this age, Kali-yuga. So that we may come to our sense, if there is any possibility of making a solution of this miserable condition of life... But we are so callous, just like animals. They do not know. The animals are kept in the room for being slaughtered. They do not know. They are eating grass and very happy. Not happy. Some of them know that "We are going to be killed." They cry. But there is no escape. What can be done? But human life is not like animals. They must know that "We are in threefold miserable condition of life, adhyatmika, adhibhautika, adhidaivika. And we do not want these all miserable condition. We want to be happy. We want to be peaceful. How to do it?"<br /><br />That is clearly stated in the Bhagavad-gita:<br /><br />daivi hy esa gunamayi<br />mama maya duratyaya<br />mam eva ye prapadyante<br />mayam etam taranti te<br /> [Bg. 7.14]<br /><br />It is very difficult. You are trying to be happy by adjustment of material conditions, but that is not possible. Maya is very strong. She'll not let you become happy under material condition. That is not possible. Then how one can become happy? Mam eva ye prapadyante mayam etam taranti te [Bg. 7.14]. As soon as you become obedient, surrender to Krsna, you become transcendental to the laws of material nature. Mahatmanas tu mam partha daivim prakrtim asritah [Bg. 9.13]. Those who are mahatmas, they are not under material condition. They are under spiritual guidance. Daivim prakrtim asritah. And what is their symptom? Bhajanty ananya-manasah. Without any diversion, they are engaged in bhajana. Sravanam kirtanam visnoh. This is bhajana.<br /><br />sravanam kirtanam visnoh<br />smaranam pada-sevanam<br />arcanam vandanam dasyam<br />sakhyam atma-nivedanam<br /> [SB 7.5.23]<br /><br />There are nine kinds of bhajana. Hearing -- just like you are hearing about Krsna -- this is bhajana. So we are giving this opportunity. We are opening hundreds of branches so that people may take advantage of hearing about Krsna. That is bhajana. You don't do anything. If you simply come here... We are holding class. If you simply come and hear, you will advance in spiritual consciousness. Simply by aural reception. Sravanadi-suddha-citte. Atah sri-krsna-namadi na bhaved grahyam indriyaih [BRS. 1.2.234]. We cannot understand God, Krsna, by our present senses. Therefore His name is adhoksaja. Here this is the verse, it is said, yato bhaktir adhoksaje. Adhoksaja. Adhoksaja. Krsna's another name is Adhoksaja. Aksaja means direct perception. Just like somebody says, "I want to see." This is called aksaja. Aksa means eyes or senses. So He is not perceived by these blunt material senses. Therefore He is known as Adhoksaja. Adhah-krta aksaja-jnanam yatra, where this direct experimental knowledge is defeated. You cannot understand God by your this blunt material experience. No. That is not possible. Therefore we have to submit. We have to surrender.<br /><br />Tad viddhi pranipatena pariprasnena sevaya [Bg. 4.34]. If you want to know, then first of all is pranipata. Pranipata means prakrsta-rupena nipata. Just like we have got the system, the disciples they fall flat, straight, and offer respect to Deity or to the spiritual master. This is called pranipata. Prani... Prakrsta-rupena nipata. The first thing is pranipata. You have to find out somebody where you can surrender fully. That is the beginning of spiritual life. Tad viddhi pranipatena [Bg. 4.34]. First condition is pranipata. Pranipatena pariprasnena. You can inquire. You can ask questions, after you have fully surrendered, not before that. Don't waste your time. It will not act. Just like Arjuna. Arjuna was talking with Krsna like friends. When Arjuna said, "Oh, the other side, they are all my kinsmen. How can I kill them? Oh, it is not possible," Krsna said, "No, you are ksatriya. It is your duty to fight. It doesn't matter the other party is your own kinsmen." Ordinary question, answers. In this way, questions and answer, questions and answer were going on. But at last, when by such questions and answers, friendly talk, nothing was solved, then Arjuna said, sisyas te ham sadhi mam prapannam: "My dear Krsna, in this way the problem will not be solved. I am becoming Your disciple. I am not talking anymore as friend." Sisyas te 'ham: "I become Your disciple." Because you cannot argue with guru. That is pranipata.<br /><br />Therefore we must have a guru where exact knowledge is coming, without any mistake. Because we cannot argue. So we must find out such guru, where perfect knowledge is coming. Just like... Therefore guru is... Acaryam mam vijaniyat. Guru must be perfect representative of Krsna. So acaryam mam vijaniyan navamanyeta karhicit: [SB 11.17.27] "Do not neglect the acarya." Na martya-buddhya: "Don't consider him as ordinary human being." Asuyeta. If he sometimes chastises you, don't be envious: "Oh he is also man, I am also man. Why he is talking like that?" No. Nasuyeta martya-buddhya. These are the instructions. This is called pranipata. So Arjuna accepted this process, sisyas te 'ham sadhi mam prapannam: "My dear Krsna, now, from this moment, I am Your sisya. I am Your sisya. I become Your disciple. Now You teach me." The Bhagavad-gita was taught to Arjuna, because he became a sisya.<br /><br />So if we actually want the solution of the problems of this material existence, as it is said, yayatma suprasidati... Yaya atma suprasidati. Supra... Su means "very nicely"; prasidati, "becomes satisfied." Everyone is trying to be satisfied, peaceful in his mind. But that is not being happen. How it will happen? The direction is given here in the Srimad-Bhagavatam. Sa vai pumsam paro dharmah. That is first-class religion. It doesn't matter whether you are following Christian religion or Hindu religion or Muslim religion or any religion. It doesn't matter. Dharma means religion. That is English translation. But actually dharma means which you cannot change. Religion, the so-called religion, is a sentiment. Today you are Hindu; tomorrow you become Muslim. Or today you are Muslim; tomorrow you become Christian. That kind of conversion, change, is not religion. Because the man remains the same. Simply by his changing the rubber stamp, "I am Hindu," "I am Muslim," "I am Christian," that does not make any benefit. Therefore our movement is Krsna consciousness. We don't talk of any religion. The consciousness should be changed. The material consciousness should be changed into spiritual consciousness. That is our propaganda. It is meant for Hindu, Muslim, Christian, anyone. White, black, yellow, everything. Because it is the function of the soul. Soul is not black, white, yellow. Soul is spirit. So one has to realize that "I am spirit soul. I am not Indian nor American nor Englishman nor German nor white nor black. This is my bodily description. I am not this body." This is the beginning of spiritual understanding.<br /><br />Therefore Suta Gosvami says, "That type of religion which actually gives spiritual education, and by spiritual education one develops his forgotten love of Godhead." Love of Godhead is there in every one of us. It is now forgotten. We have to simply awaken it. Otherwise how these English boys, these American boys, the Canadian boys or gentlemen, they are taking to Krsna consciousness so seriously? It is not something artificial. The Krsna consciousness was there. It is being awakened under certain prescribed method. That's all. Sravanadi-suddha-citte karaye udaya. This is the process. Nitya-siddha krsna-bhakti. Caitanya-caritamrta says that "This Krsna consciousness is there, dormant, in everyone's heart. It is already there." Sravanadi-suddha-citte: "If you kindly hear about Krsna and your heart becomes purified, the original dormant Krsna consciousness is immediately awakened."."<br /><br />So this is the process. Therefore Bhagavata recommends, sa vai pumsam paro dharmah: "That type of religion is first class who has accepted this process how to awaken Krsna consciousness." Adhoksaja. Yato bhaktir adhoksaje. What kind of bhakti? Ahaituki, without any motive, without any motive. Because generally we go to temple or perform religion with a motive, some material purpose. But bhakti should be without any motive, ahaituki, no cause. Apratihata, and it cannot be checked. It is not that because one is Christian or one is Muhammadan or one is outside the Vedic culture, he cannot become Krsna conscious. No. Ahaituky apratihata. Apratihata means nothing can check. Anything material impediment, is not able to check Krsna consciousness. Ahaituky apratihata yayatma suprasidati. If you follow this method how to awaken your Krsna consciousness, then automatically your atma will be satisfied, oh. Just like Mrs. Sharma was describing, "Now I am so happy." She is not an ordinary woman. She is very rich. She has got business. But she is finding happiness here. This is practical example. This is practical example. Yayatma, yayatma suprasidati.<br /><br />So Caitanya Mahaprabhu said that "Take this responsibility of preaching Krsna consciousness all over the world, those who are Indians." Now there are many Indians in London. You take this movement very seriously. It is your duty to spread this movement. At least, you do it in European countries. Now here is a chance, good chance. Come here, participate with the movement, become Krsna conscious yourself, and preach it. That will be Indian's glory. Otherwise simply beg. You will remain simply beggars, that's all.<br /><br />Thank you very much. Hare Krsna. (end)<br /> <br />>>> Ref. C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada <br /><br /><br /><br />Prabhupada:<br /><br />munayah sadhu prsto 'ham<br />bhavadbhir loka-mangalam<br />yat-krtah krsna-samprasno<br />yenatma suprasidati<br /> [SB 1.2.5]<br /><br />By the sages in Naimisaranya, the question was put before Suta Gosvami that "After Krsna's departure from this world to His own abode, where the responsibility was given for religious propaganda?" So it was krsna-samprasno, question about Krsna. And the question was that religious principle, where did it rest? Because religion means the law of God. Dharmam tu saksad bhagavat-pranitam [SB 6.3.19]. As you cannot manufacture law at home The law is enunciated in the legislative assembly of the government. Not that you can manufacture law in your home or in your office or in a big conference by the public. No. Similarly, the word dharma, religion, is explained in the English dictionary, "a sect of faith." And people have interpreted in a different way, that "I can manufacture my own way of religion." It is going on very strong nowadays by some missionary sect, yata mat tata pat. As many ways there are, they are all perfect. That somebody said that to cut throat is my religion. That is also accepted. But that is not religion. Religion means dharmam tu saksad bhagavat-pranitam [SB 6.3.19]. What is spoken by the Supreme Personality of Godhead or what is ordained by the supreme authority, that is dharma. Therefore in the next verse it is explained,<br /><br />sa vai pumsam paro dharmo<br />yato bhaktir adhoksaje<br />ahaituky apratihata<br />yayatma suprasidati<br /> [SB 1.2.6]<br /><br />If you want actual peace, atma, suprasidati, then you have to accept paro dharma. Para means supreme or superior. There are two kinds of dharmas, para and apara. Apara means this material world. Bhumir apo 'nalo vayuh kham mano buddhir eva ca. There are two natures, one spiritual nature and one material nature. People do not understand what is spiritual nature. But Krsna explains very nicely, and one can understand very easily what is spiritual nature and what is material nature. In the Bhagavad-gita, the matter, five elements, earth, water, air, fire, sky, mind, intelligence, ego, these are material nature. Prakrti me bhinna astadha. Apareyam. Then Krsna says this is apara. Apara means inferior. Bhumir apo 'nalo vayuh. The modern scientist or philosophers, they are engaged in studying this inferior nature. They have no information of the superior nature. But Krsna says that these five elements, eight elements. Five gross and three subtle. The mind is also material. Kham mano buddhir. These are material. People think this mental speculation, poetry, philosophy, that is spiritual. No. So long the subject matter is material, the concoction of the mind, speculation of the mind, the so-called philosophy, is also material.<br /><br />When mind is engaged at the lotus feet of the Lord... As it is stated in the Srimad-..., sa vai manah krsna-padaravindayor. When the mind is fixed up in the lotus feet of the Lord, then the words are used, the vibration of the tongue used... Vacamsi vaikuntha-gunanuvarnane. Then the words are utilized for describing about the spiritual world. The spiritual world is called Vaikuntha. There is no kuntha, anxiety. That is spiritual world. When you become spiritualized, brahma-bhutah prasannatma [Bg. 18.54]. There is no more kuntha. This is the sign of becoming brahma-bhutah. At the present moment we are jiva-bhutah. Manah sasthanindriyani prakrti-sthani karsati [Bg. 15.7]. Therefore our struggle for existence is with the mind and the six senses. But when your existence is spiritualized, then brahma-bhutah, you have no more anxieties. That is the sign. Brahma-bhutah prasannatma na socati na Prasannatma means na socati na kanksati [Bg. 18.54].<br /><br />We have got two diseases in the material world. One is socati, and the other is kanksati. The things which we haven't got we desire to possess, kanksati. And the things which we possess, it will be spoiled, it will be lost. Canakya Pandita says that everything in this material world is temporary. Smaro nityam anityatam. So when we engage our mind in these temporary things, that is socana and akanksa. And when we are elevated to the spiritual platform, then there is no more socana and akanksa. This is the symptom. Brahma-bhutah prasannatma na socati na kanksati, samah sarvesu bhutesu [Bg. 18.54]. At that time it is possible to re-establish samata. We are very much anxious to re-establish our universal brotherhood, but from the material platform it is not possible. Unless we come to the platform of brahma-bhutah, we cannot expect samah sarvesu bhutesu. Panditah sama-darsinah [Bg. 5.18]. These things are there in the Bhagavad-gita.<br /><br />So considering from all these point of view, Bhagavan Krsna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, He's teaching us that paro dharmah. We have distinguished para and apara. Apareyam. The material elements, mind, intelligence, and ego, they are all material. Apara. Itas tv viddhi me prakrtim param jiva-bhutam maha-baho yayedam dharyate jagat. So we have to come to that spiritual platform, brahma-bhutah platform. Samah sarvesu bhutesu. That is wanted. That kind of religious system is explained in the Srimad-Bhagavatam. Paro dharmo. And others, they are aparo dharma. Apara, inferior. Therefore one Vrndavana Dasa Thakura, a great Vaisnava acarya, he has said,<br /><br />prthivite yaha kichu dharma name cale<br /> bhagavata kahe taha pari purna chole<br /><br />Prthivite, upon the surface of the earth there are many systems of religion. Yaha kichu dharma name chole. So what is that? Bhagavata kahe. He does not say, but he says on the authority of Srimad-Bhagavatam. That is scholarship. A scholar will not speak anything as he is thinking. No. He will give authoritative quotation to support. That is Vedic system. When you support your proposition with the Vedic version, then it is accepted. Otherwise not. Veda pramana.<br /><br />So Vrndavana Dasa Thakura said bhagavata kahe. He doesn't say, "In my opinion." Nowadays it has become a very good fashion, "I think." "In my opinion." Without knowing his own value, he gives his opinion. He does not know that he's imperfect. He's imperfect in his senses, he's liable to commit mistake, he's illusioned, and he's a cheater. Everyone knows that "How I am cheating the other party." Especially amongst businessmen, when there is conference, so each one is trying, "Now how much I have cheated him." So this cheating, vipralipsa, is one of the qualification of the conditioned soul. Bhrama pramada vipralipsa karanapatava. So a person, authorized person in the line of disciplic succession, he does not speak by his own authority. Immediately he'll quote from the Vedic literature to support his proposition. So Vrndavana Dasa Thakura says bhagavata kahe. He doesn't say that, "I say" or "In my opinion." No. Bhagavata kahe taha pari purna chole.<br /><br />prthivite yaha kichu dharma name cale<br />bhagavata kahe taha pari purna chole<br /><br />So how is that Bhagavata says? The Srimad-Bhagavatam you'll find, in the introductory portion, Vyasadeva says, dharmah projjhita-kaitavo 'tra [SB 1.1.2]. Atra, srimad-bhagavate, kaitavo dharma, projjhita. Kaitava means cheating. Cheating type of religion is completely kicked out. Projjhita. Prakrstha rupena ujjhita. Just like we sweep over the floor and throw away the dust just to make the floor very clean. The Srimad-Bhagavatam, just to make it very clean from this cheating type of religious system It is written by Vyasadeva, religion means that yato bhaktir adhoksaje. This is religion. Here it is said. Sa vai pumsam paro dharmo yato bhaktir adhoksaje [SB 1.2.6]. It doesn't matter whether you are Hindu or Muslim or Christian or Buddha or Jaini or so on, so on. There are so many, hundreds. But the test is yato bhaktir adhoksaje, whether you have developed your love for God. That is wanted. It doesn't matter.<br /><br />Just like if you want to be a mathematician, so you may pass from any university, Calcutta University or Delhi University or London University -- any university. Mathematics two plus two equal to four everywhere. It is not that in Calcutta University two plus two equal to five, and in London University two plus equal to three. No. Everywhere two plus two equal to five, four. Similarly, dharma means obedience to the laws of God. That is dharma. Either you become Christian or Hindu or Muslim, whether you accept God as the supreme authority and whether you abide by the laws of God, then you are dharmic. Otherwise, it is cheating. If there is no conception of God, if one does not know what is God and what is the order of God, then that type of religion is cheating religion and that kind of religion is completely thrown out from Srimad-Bhagavatam. Therefore Vrndavana Dasa Thakura said, prthivite ache yata..., prthivite yaha kichu dharma name cale. Cale means it is passing on in the name of religion but it is not religion. Because religion without conception of God, what is the meaning of that religion? If that is religion, that is not para dharma. That is apara dharma. Apara dharma. Just like sometimes we take desa-dharma. Samaja-dharma, grha-dharma, and so many things.<br /><br />So desa-dharma, nationalism. Now you are in this country, suppose in India, and next life, because you have to change your body, next life it may not be that you have taken birth in India. You might have taken birth in the heavenly planet or in the animal society. Because there is no guarantee. Krsna says tatha dehantara-praptir. Death means change of the body. But what kind of body you are going to accept, that will depend on the superior arrangement. But you can arrange also. Just like if you pass medical examination, there is possibility of your becoming a medical officer to get a service in the government medical service board, but still, it must be selected by the medical board and so on, so on. There are so many condition. Similarly to get the next body, that is not your selection. That selection depends on superior authority. Karmana daiva netrena jantur dehopapattaye [SB 3.31.1]. That we do not know, that next life. Neither we endeavor what is next life. We have to accept a next life after giving up this body.<br /><br />Therefore we must be prepared for that purpose. So preparation means In the Bhagavad-gita it is said yanti deva-vrata devan [Bg. 9.25]. If you prepare yourself to go to the higher planetary system, Candraloka, Suryaloka, Indraloka, Svargaloka, Brahmaloka, Janaloka, Maharloka, Tapoloka -- there are so many, hundreds. If you want to go there, then you prepare in that way. Yanti deva-vrata devan pitrn yanti pitr-vratah. So if you want to go to the Pitrloka, you can go there. If you want to go to the higher planetary system, in the devaloka, you can go there. And if you want to remain here, you can remain here. And if you want go to go to the loka, Goloka, Vrndavana, mad-yajino 'pi yanti mam. You can go there. Back to home, back to Godhead. That is possible. Krsna says tyaktva deham punar janma naiti mam eti [Bg. 4.9]. If you like you can go back to home, back to Godhead. That is possible. So therefore the intelligent persons, they must know "If I go to the devaloka, what is the result of going there. If I go to the Pitrloka, what is the result. If I remain here, what is the result. And if I go back to home, back to God, what is the result." The ultimate result is that if you can go back to home, back to Godhead, then Krsna says what is the result. The result is tyaktva deham punar janma naiti [Bg. 4.9], that you don't get birth again in this material world. So that is the highest gain. Punar janma naiti mam eti.<br /><br />mam upetya tu kaunteya<br />duhkhalayam asasvatam<br />napnuvanti mahatmanah<br />samsiddhim paramam gatah<br /> [Bg. 8.15]<br /><br />That is the highest perfection. And therefore here it is said, sa vai pumsam paro dharmo yato bhaktir adhoksaje [SB 1.2.6]. So if you want to go back to home, back to Godhead, then yato bhaktir adhoksaje. You have to adopt this means, bhakti. Bhaktya mam abhijanati yavan yas casmi tattvatah [Bg. 18.55]. Krsna, or the Supreme Lord, cannot be understood by karma, jnana, yoga. No process will be sufficient to understand Krsna. Therefore you have to take to this process as recommended by Krsna, bhaktya mam abhijanati yavan yass casmi tattvatah [Bg. 18.55]. Therefore we do not indulge in Krsna's lila unless it is performed or it is executed by the devotees. Not professional men. That is forbidden. Caitanya Mahaprabhu never indulged in. Because the subject matter of Krsna can be understood only by the process of bhakti. Yato bhaktir adhoksaje. Without bhakti, it is not possible. The bhakti process one has to adopt if he actually wants to go back home, back to Godhead. That is Krsna consciousness movement.<br /><br />Our movement, this Krsna consciousness movement, is educating people how to become advanced in devotional service and how to go back home, back to Godhead. And this is not a very difficult task. It is very easy. If it is not easy how the Europeans, Americans, are now taking seriously? Because they, I think at least before ten years, before starting of this movement, most of them, they did not know what is Krsna. Now they are all devotees of Krsna. Even the Christian priests, they are surprised. In Boston, one Christian priest, he admitted that "These boys, they are our boys, coming from the Christian group or the Jewish group. So before this movement they did not take care even to see us or to ask any question about God or to come to the church. They completely neglected. And now, how it is they are mad after God?" They are surprised. "Why? Why have they become so...?" Because they have taken to the process. The process is important. Simply speculation... Bhakti is not theoretical. It is practical. Yato bhaktir adhoksaje. If you want to take to the bhakti process, it is not speculation. You must actually engage yourself in the process. Yato bhaktir adhoksaje. That process is<br /><br />sravanam kirtanam visnoh<br />smaranam pada-sevanam<br />arcanam vandanam dasyam<br />sakhyam atma-nivedanam<br /> [SB 7.5.23]<br /><br />This is nine different [break] Sthane sthitah sruti-gatam tanu-van-manobhir. Simply by hearing. You remain in your place, there is no need of changing your place. If you are businessman, do your business. If you are a medical man, remain in your medical profession. Or lawyer, or whatever it may be. That is the recommendation of Brahma and confirmed by Sri Caitanya Mahaprabhu. Sthane sthitah sruti-gatam tanu-van-manobhir. If we hear, sruti-gatam, if we receive the message of bhakti, then you can remain in your place. But if you hear and try to implement it employ it in practical life, then one day the Supreme Lord whose another name is Ajita, you'll be able to conquer Him. Jito 'py asi. These are the recommendation in the sastra. So this is first-class or superior dharma. Everyone can accept it. Simply hear. And that hearing process is also made very easy. This chanting Hare Krsna maha-mantra you chant and hear. Anywhere you can do it. You sit down in your home or in your office, in your factory, underneath a tree or anywhere, you can chant Hare Krsna, Hare Krsna, Krsna Krsna, Hare Hare/ Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare. And you can hear. This process will make you advanced in everything. Caitanya Mahaprabhu has given His benediction, iha haite sarva siddhi hoibe tomara. By, simply by this chanting and hearing of Hare Krsna mantra, all perfection you'll get. It's very easy.<br /><br />Therefore our request is that whatever you may be, in whatever position you may be, it doesn't matter. Sthane sthitah. Just sit down together, the family members, and chant Hare Krsna. It is very easy. Nobody can say it is very difficult. And if it is difficult to chant then it should be understood that we are most unfortunate. Etadrsi tava krpa bhagavan mamapi durdaivam idrsam ihajani nanuragah. Caitanya Mahaprabhu has taught that namnam akari bahudha nija-sarva-saktis tatrarpita niyamitah smarane na kalah. The Lord's holy name is as powerful as the Lord Himself. Na 'bhinnatvan nama-naminoh. This is the sastric injunction. There is no difference between Krsna name and the Krsna person. Because Krsna is absolute. Advaya-tattva. Advaya-jnana. So He has descended in this age, kali rupe, kali yuge nama rupe krsna-avatara. This nama, Hare Krsna, is the sound incarnation of Krsna. Don't think it is ordinary sound. Hare Krsna. Therefore Narottama Dasa Thakura has sung, golokera prema-dhana hari-nama-sankirtana, rati na janmilo kene tay. This sound vibration is coming, this is transcendental sound. It is coming from Goloka Vrndavana. It is not this mundane sound. Just like in radio you receive sound from other places. Similarly, this sound is received, I mean to say, released from the Vaikuntha. Golokera prema-dhana.<br /><br />So the sound vibration, Caitanya Mahaprabhu gives it to the people in general. He says that the name, holy name, is as powerful as Krsna. Namnam akari bahudha nija-sarva-saktis tatrarpita niyamitah smarane na kalah. And to smarane, to hear and chant, there is no particular time. Just like gayatri-mantra and other things you have to chant in a different atmosphere, three times, tri-sandha. After taking bath. There are so many rules and regulations. But this Hare Krsna maha-mantra you can chant anywhere and everywhere at any time, without any regulative principles. Niyamitah smarane na kalah. So Caitanya Mahaprabhu regrets, etadrsi tava krpa bhagavan mamapi. "My Lord, You are so merciful upon Me, but still, durdaivam idrsam ihajani nanuragah, I am so unfortunate that I am reluctant to chant this Hare Krsna mantra." So our this movement is teaching very simple thing, that whatever you may be, wherever you may be, there is no expenditure. There is no loss. You chant Hare Krsna. This is our movement.<br /><br />So the ladies and gentlemen who are present here, kindly take this instruction of the sastra. Then you become situated in the transcendental, first-class system of religion. Sa vai pumsam paro dharmo yato bhaktir adhoksaje ahaituky apratihata [SB 1.2.6]. Ahaituki. But don't chant Hare Krsna maha-mantra with any motive. That is not good. Even if you chant with motive, that will take little time to become pure devotee, but better without any motive. As a matter of duty, you chant regularly. Ahaituky apratihata. Then there will be no hindrances. You'll make progress without any hindrances. Ahaituky apratihata. And then you'll be pleased. Yenatma samprasidati. Then you'll be feeling transcendental bliss. Ceto-darpana-marjanam bhava-maha-davagni [Cc. Antya 20.12]. And all the blazing fire of this material world will be extinguished. Bhava-maha-davagni. Here, in this material world, it is compared with davagni. Davagni means the forest fire. Nobody goes to set fire in the forest, but it takes place. Similarly, however cautious you may be, you cannot make this material world without davagni. That is not possible. The davagni will continue. Visaya visanale, diva-nisi hiya jvale. Narottama Dasa Thakura has sung that the material world is such that it is just like a blazing fire. Visaya visanale diva-nisi. Here, everyone, even the Prime Minister, even the President, very opulently situated, but always full of anxieties. Very, too much anxieties.<br /><br />So if you want to be yayatma samprasidati, then you must take to this process, this bhakti-yogam. Sravanam kirtanam visnoh smaranam pada-sevanam [SB 7.5.23]. There are so many different items. And the most important item is sravanam. We can sit down, family members, and we can read from Srimad-Bhagavatam, Bhagavad-gita, and hear and chant Hare Krsna mantra. Very easy thing. That we want to introduce every home. That is our only request, that in whichever position you are, it doesn't matter. You simply begin this chanting of Hare Krsna mantra and reading of Bhagavad-gita As It Is. Don't try to be ustad in interpreting. That is very dangerous. Ustadi is not good. Simply try to understand Bhagavad-gita as it is. Bhagavan says, mattah parataram nanyat kincid asti dhananjaya [Bg. 7.7]. "My dear Arjuna, there is no more superior authority than Me." You accept it. That's all. You haven't got to interpret foolishly. No, then you are gone. Then you become condemned.<br /><br />Caitanya Mahaprabhu's mission is that. Yare dekha, tare kaha ‘krsna'-upadesa. He says, amara ajnaya guru hana tara' ei desa [Cc. Madhya 7.128]. Ei desa. Just like Surendra is here. So I'll request Dr. Sukla is here. It doesn't matter that you have to go out. You are in Aligarh, you become a guru. That is Caitanya Mahaprabhu's "How shall I become guru? I am grhastha, I'm engaged this..." No. You haven't got to learn very much, to be puffed-up. Yare dekha tare kaha ‘krsna'-upadesa [Cc. Madhya 7.128]. That's all. You simply decide what Krsna has spoken. Then you become guru. If you want to manufacture something and show some magic, then you do not become guru. If you simply repeat what Krsna has said. Krsna says, man-mana bhava mad-bhakto mad-yaji mam namaskuru [Bg. 18.65], mam evaisyasi asamsayam. What is the difficulty? You can say all the same thing. "Sir, you always think of Krsna." Krsna says man-mana bhava mad-bhakto. You don't say that "You think of me." That is rascaldom. You say that "You think of Krsna." Krsna says man-mana but you don't say man-mana. You say Krsna. Krsna said. "You always think of Krsna." Man-mana bhava mad-bhakto. "You just become a devotee of Krsna. You just worship Krsna." Mad-yaji. "And just offer little obeisances to the Lord." These four things. Even a child can do. And you can preach. You can become guru. What is the difficulty? Everyone.<br /><br />amara ajnaya guru hana tara' ei desa<br />yare dekha, tare kaha ‘krsna'-upadesa<br /> [Cc. Madhya 7.128]<br /><br />You become a guru. Don't manufacture ideas. Yenatma samprasidati. So is there any difficulty? No difficulty. The Bhagavad-gita explains everything very nicely, how to become Krsna conscious, how to worship Krsna, how to understand Krsna. Everything is explained there very lucidly. So people can take it very easily, and then he will be perfect. Then he'll not come... Mam upetya tu kaunteya duhkhalayam asasvatam [Bg. 8.15]. It is very easy. So take it very seriously. That is our propaganda. We don't manufacture anything, any jugglery of words, any magic or any new ideas of God. These nonsense things we do not do. We simply carry out the order of Caitanya Mahaprabhu and we simply repeat ‘krsna'-upadesa. That's all. This is Krsna consciousness movement. You can take it and also you can do it. You can also become guru. That we want. Thank you very much. Hare Krsna. Any question? If there is any question you can put.<br /><br />Indian man: (Hindi)<br /><br />Indian man: Adhoksaja, I want to...<br /><br />Prabhupada: Hmm, Adhoksaja. Aksaja. A-i-e-oo -- then at the end, ksaya.
